Leg three completed

in GT2
(1) Viper - Jason and John
(2) GT3RS - Matt and Cameron
(3) Viper
(4) GT4
(5) Exige

Two of the longest stages were hammered out today

Cethana ~38km (overall)

(1) WRX STI Steve
(2) Viper - Jason and John
(3) GT3 RS - Matt and Cameron
(4) Viper
(5) Exige

Riana ~ 36km (overall)

(1) WRX STI - Steve
(2) Viper - Jason and John
(3) GT3 RS - Matt and Cameron
(4) Viper
(5) Exige

The "lead" cars can average speeds of ~ 130kmh on some of these stages which is very, very quick.

Looks like a chilly start for tomorrow - 1 degree over night - western district forecast "Cloudy. High (80%) chance of showers in the afternoon and evening. Snow falling above 1100 metres. Light winds becoming west to northwesterly 20 to 30 km/h in the morning. Overnight temperatures falling to between zero and 5 with daytime temperatures reaching between 10 and 15."

In Tassie this type of forecast is pretty nasty, particularly with respect to some of the later stages in leg 4 (or Mt Arrowsmith in leg 5)

It would be great to see a few more photos if time permits good luck.

Hi all - not a lot of time to report here as I'm head down/race face on.

First stage today will be tough for us - wet and a very cold tyre! Damage limitation until we get some temperature up in the tyres. If it dries up - we are in with a real shot to run down the Viper!
(Bare in mind with the Subaru of Glenney - he has one less day tyre wear as he missed the entire day 1, and there is no consequences for him if he runs out of rubber due to wear or a puncture - out of the results) - we are racing the Viper/s for the entire rally not the Subaru for each sprint! #randr

I noticed the same thing about #randr's somewhat selective report, Matt. You were having a great run in the dry stages yesterday, chopping into the Viper's lead. Good luck with the day

The video highlights are great.

Love that yellow Holden Monaro in the Classic section!

Thanks Gastrogt3 - we could probably go a bit quicker in the wet, but I keep finding 500,000 reasons to be sensible!
That Khumo tyre on the Vipers is very soft - awesome in the wet.
Mike in the 3rd place Viper is also very quick in the wet and is doing an brilliant job keeping us honest.

LOL, I hear you! Though I would have preferred 505,000 and another red car...

Yep, but it's going to have to be big Saturday. 1.24 to catch up, unless there's another Viper (or two) over-rev engine blown.

Good luck, my man!!

Leg 5 is done

GT2
(1) Viper Jason and John
(2) Viper
(3) GT3RS Matt and Cameron
(4) Exige
(5) GT3

Longest stages Strahan ~34km and Mt Arrowsmith ~53km
Strahan
(1) WRX STI - Steve
(2) Viper - Jason and John
(3) Viper
(4) GT3RS - Matt and Cameron
(5) Exige

Mt Arrowsmith
(1) WRX STI - Steve and Mike
(2) Viper
(3) Exige
(4) Viper - Jason and John
(5) GT3RS - Matt and Cameron

Current gap between the Viper (Jason) and GT3RS (Matt) is 84s - its not over until the "fat" lady sings

Lots of great driving all round - no winners or losers really - safe completion is a win in its own right

The Vipers tires are almost certainly an advantage (the question is have they anything left on them) - on stock Kumhos (and in the dry) the viper will pull ~ .1 lateral g more in a corner than the RS on stock MPSC2. This is a lot.

Good luck for tomorrow
