There is a special amount of heart and soul in the R.

I'd agree it's not a $500k car, but there are numerous other cars that don't match the current sticker price, by historic standards.

That's a separate issue from whether or not it's a stand-out and special model, which it is, IMO.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and, to me, the R is the nicest thing since the 964 RS.

interesting discussions here, over Saturday morning mocha...

1. canadian cars simply are cheaper in US mkt. 15% less mini. why? i dont know. but that's what i see. i am simply stating what i see. would i get a canadian car, no. why? if i am already paying 500k or so, it's fine paying another extra 70 to get usa car and many buyers feel the same. at this $, there is no longer rational decision. you just do what you feel like.

2. i have not driven a 991R YET. but foot soldier, i am coming to drive yours ;-).... seriously some feel this will be a legend some think just a super GTS. i cannot predict future, but my gut feeling is it will be a legend. * and this is coming from someone who LOVES WIDE *** AND GIANT WINGS!!!

3. would i buy it for 500k? YES. why didn't i? one i need it my spec. (there is one spec'd my way) but i dont have $500k sitting around. if someone find me one at 100+, i am game (hey, i KNOW that's wishful thinking.. but that's all the $ i got)

Still do not get it. I would rather pay a $25,000 premium for a .2GT3 than an "R" at MSRP. Unless it was only to fip the "R" to pocket the money

Spa Francorchamps, 25th April. LTs, RS etc to match up against, we can even sort you out with a nice steak dinner at a nearby chateau, the night before :-)

it's not about "getting it".
most of the R drivers will also buy a 991.2GT3 for **** and giggles then sell the .2GT3 after a while and keep the R.
i dont know how to explain it. but watch, that's what will happen.

my dad got me into prosche in 1978 (i can't drive then. too young) but i washed them. when i had my own p cars, at first, i tried to rationalization why i burn money like that (remember cars used to depreciate).... then i had 2, 3, 4 porsches at the same time. i ran out of excuses as to why i need so many cars. and now, i just throw any reason or logic out the window. if it tickles you, do it. if you have to "think " then it doesn't tickle you at all. that's not the car for you.

two weeks ago, my IWB BP 5009 needed a new buckle. i went and bought the buckle then decided i needed a strap too. guess what, i came home with a strap and a buckle ($1100) for free................ well i did also pay for a 5 digit watch that i have no use for. but at the time, it sang to me....

i have 6 bicycles, some like variety, my are set up IDENTICAL, 3 are even same color. the lack of logic = logic.....

let it be and enjoy the ride

It's not popular to have sober thoughts on a diehard Porsche gt forum.. but I'll join you.

Will still buy an R as long as US car.

Congrats on the 3.6 purchase, I have both and I much prefer driving the 3.6.

The essence of driving a manual Porsche is still there, no electronic nannies and it's all skills when compared with the R.

I'd love to know if the R was not a #'d car and made in the same #'s as other GT cars, what would they be selling for?

$$$ aside, I'm sure they're a wonderful Pcar, but just not worth the markups.
