Three Wheelin'
911 looked good till the last 30 mins. Cut tire compounded by pit road mistakes. My honest view is that it could have won. It had the Corvette in its crosshairs to be let down by the cut tire. Oh well... Will see what happens in LeMans.

I agree but this is becoming extremely discouraging. The move toward "mid engine", huge following of the brand, engineering, advertising etc. As a Porsche fan & owner I'd like to see them winning non LMP1 races.

Should've brought the boosted engine they tested. Dieselgate also screwed us out of the 960 platform which the Ford GT cloned.

Interesting how I prepared myself for a 5th or 6 th place finish all the while seeing the cars hanging around 30 - 50 seconds back from the leaders , but then the gaps would come down and give me some hope . The off sequence strategy on the #911 seemed like it might pay off until the late yellow , but the slow stop looked to have them done , but watching the car carve up the field ( and pass the Ferrari and 2 Fords ! ) only to have the tire issue seems to indicate the car has potential . They seemed to come out of nowhere at the end at Daytona too . Too bad about the end results . Unless there is some serious sandbagging going on ( doesn't seem possible with all the data the series collects ) I would be concerned about the frontal area of the car at Le Mans . Of course we don't know yet how they'll be configured under ACO rules so who knows . And then there is GTD ...... won't even go there .

Why are you guys harshing on the RSR? They were right there until the cut tire and subsequent penalty....
"In GTLM, the front-running No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR made a painful mistake in the last hour, running over an air hose after swapping a punctured left front tire. Because of the extra time in the pits and the drive-through penalty for running over the hose, the No. 3 Corvette slid on through to take the class win. Right behind the No. 3 was the No. 66 Ford GT. Finishing in third was Risi Competizione’s No. 62 Ferrari 488 GTE. Risi driver James Calado made an insane last-lap pass around the No. 67 Ford GT of Richard Westbrook for third place on the very last lap."

+1. Pilet was tearing it up..figuratively and literally. Antonio Garcia was on fire. Give him credit. Fabulous drive. Had Pilet not had a cut tire no doubt he would have won or podiumed.. his pace was amazing. Bum luck.

Porsche were in great position toward the end.
Off fuel cycle and Fred Mako charging hard. Final FCY happened over the fuel window for GTLM so the whole pack came in with 57 minutes to go. Porsche were second and had less fuel to add but elected to change tires. Despite a problem with the tire gun Pilet worked back up to second but alas the cut tire and ran over the hose and ... finished 7th.
