Personally, I'd wait for the .2
If history is any guide, there should eventually be enough for everyone willing to wait.
I would hate to feel compelled to dump the .1 at end of warranty (even though that's typically what I end up doing).
Beyond all of that - all indications are that the .2 will be epic.

Buy the .1 CPO and enjoy it for 2-3 years while it is still under warranty.
Then trade it for close to what you paid for it toward a used .2 at probably over msrp. The GT3 is a fantastic car.

Get the .1. One more .2 allocation available for me.

Buy the 991.1 GT3 now.
Then sell it when/if you get the 991.2 GT3.
Life's too short to wait, much less wasting time and energy on decisions like this.

Understand the life's to short thing but not everyone has the option to lose a lot
on their purchase. I think if the new GT3's come out and are not having the same
problem as with the 991.1, and as many have said here they think if you are going to want a 991.2 Porsche will build more this time and you will probably be able to get one. Who will want to buy a used 991.1 with no warranty and how will the value on these cars stay strong? Most comments of them holding value seems to be coming from the people who own them now. I will be waiting for a 991.2 allocation.

I'll go a different direction and say go find yourself a 997.1 GT3. Full experience, manual, not depreciating, all time classic. Also dimensionally more appealing.

So many variables to a decision like this. Can you get a 991.2 GT3 at MSRP? How long is the wait? What is the premium? What does Porsche do when cars have this problem out of warranty? What aftermarket fixes appear? If you are unsure just wait until the new one is announced, see what the market does, and then decide.

Are you in the "market" for the .2 GT3 or have an allocation?
If not and if you step in now - maybe you get an allocation to the summer of 2018, over a year away
You never know what happens in life and you only live once - buy a .1 GT3 and enyoy it

The car I'm negotiating on is a private party sale. It's '15 with 8K miles and the "perfect" color and options. My initial thought was this is perfect! Totally excited. Then read the misfire thread and I became a bit deflated. Now after getting everyone's feedback, I'm 70% back to excited.
Going to call the dealer tomorrow about the .2 allocation and weigh my options. The thing is with the .2, I'll be paying substantially more since have to pay sales tax, so build similar to the '15 I've found will probably end up costing me about $178K after taxes, etc. Versus, the '15 .1GT3 which will be $143K all-in. Maybe a moot issue though as sounds like I could drive the .2 for a few years and then sell it for my initial purchase price. '15 may drop further.
2 more questions:
1. Has a poll been done to determine how many .1's have issues and how many don't? I mean with my '06 997, the IMS issues seem blown way up in online discussions, but in talking with three different Porsche dealer techs at three busy locations, none had ever seen a single one in an '06 or newer. I didn't like the idea that it may happen, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the car, and it didn't happen. Is this similar to the .1 GT3 where it is a small percentage?
2. Is there an option to extend the warranty through Porsche if done before initial warranty expires? (realize can't be CPO'd since private party sale)
