I had a similar issue, except dog it was kids with the backseat, and i didn't want to dd my gt3 because i didn't want to roll into work in it. But mine is a garden variety white one, not signal green, and that plays into this as well.
I wound up keeping the gt3 and getting a manual m2 to dd along with my cayenne. it's a tough decision, only one you can really answer...i know that's not much help...but man, that signal green gt3...gorgeous!

You can even get the C4 GTS (or Targa 4 GTS) and drive in winter with the right tires if necessary.
....and if you still need something more practical for occasional times when you have to carry a bunch of stuff around, get something cheap like a Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4.

All GT models have held their value well and so will 991.1 GT3's even after the GT3 991.2's come out. 991.2's will be more expensive to start and likely sell at a premium above msrp since they will be hard to get. This could push a 991.2 close to $200k. This will make used 991.1's look very attractive for $140k.
Ultimately you will be trading a special car (GT3) for a special version of a regular car in the GTS. I think you will be underwhelmed by the GTS. I've already driven a 991.2 C2S and was in comparison.
If you must do the trade for daily practicality, consider a used 2014 or 2015 Turbo coupe. You should be able to come close to trading your GT3 even up for one. It's far more car than the GTS will be and the big initial depreciation hit someone else already took.

DD'ing ANY sports car in Houston would be a hassle to me. The roads there, if you can call them that, no curves, traffic...I'd be in a Range Rover, Merc, P SUV etc. When I drive there for business I leave the M3 at home and take the truck.
