Currently have a 2015 991 GTS Cab and 997 GTS Coupe both with PDK. I'm thinking about trading both in for a 2016 GT3 CPO. I'm actually traveling for work more than half the year and added up all the miles I drove between 4 cars and only did around 5500 miles. Was thinking about consolidating. I have a Boxster Spyder so I would still have a convertible although I might miss the convenience of dropping the top on the 991 and every day drivability of it. Also a little worried about taking a big hit when the next GT3 comes out although I wouldn't get one of those until after it's been out a couple of years. I've got two kids... 3 and 5 but they're overseas 9 months out of the year and my wife is also overseas 9 months out of the year. If the GT3 had a back seat I wouldn't even have to think about this. At least the daughter is big enough to ride in a booster up front but will also miss being able to go out with the wife and throw the two kids in the back of the 991 or 997. Also have an X5 so that means family trips will be restricted to only the SUV. What do you guys think? Pretty fair trade and should I do it?

Tough call, thought about keeping the Cab, so you have both a car for the 4 of you and also gets you your convertible? Trade in the 997 and Spyder.

No, I haven't driven one yet. Will do so in a week or so when I get some free time. Although the 991 is more comfortable I actually prefer the way the 997 feels when I drive it. The Spyder I won't consider selling because it's a stick and way more fun to drive than either 911 I have right now. I've actually even considered trading the 997 GTS for another Boxster Spyder... current 981 ones.

I highly recommend to test drive a GT3, it is completely different to any GTS. Also might wanna consider the GT4 instead of the B.Spyder. Although, the GT4 is slightly similar to a B.Spyder they are yet again very different.

I wish I test drove the GT3 when I was at my dealer last December. Instead I took out a new Targa 4S because I wanted to check out the new turbo engines... I didn't like it at all. I don't see a 991.2 GTS in my future. Power delivery wasn't as linear feeling... to me it felt like it made too much power down in the lower RPMs vs the NA engine that you can wind out and has a more linear power delivery. Plus I didn't care for the sound of the turbo engine... just sounded muffled to me. If someone didn't hear it back to back with a NA engine it probably wouldn't sound bad but it doesn't compare to the NA when heard back to back.

B. Spyder still puts the biggest smile on my face when I drive it out of the cars I have now. I wish I could get the feel of the 997 in the cabin of the 991... which is why I started thinking about the GT3. The back seat is less of an issue now because daughter is old enough for a booster and probably less than a month out of the year I would even need a back seat.

I agree with kyrocks - you need to drive it. Based on your extensive experience, I bet you'll know whether the GT3 is for you.

My two cents - I recently bought my GT3 mostly for track purposes. It's turning out to be more of a DD than I expected - probably drive it twice a week to work and a bit on the weekend for errands. That's more than I used the GT4. Every drive is an experience. Lastly - the PDK is central to the GT3 experience.

I think you should try the GT3 , it is another great experience when you drive it ,
not like the spyder, but great in its own way

I've only got a 30 mile round trip from home to work when I'm in the States so I don't really rack up many miles. I guess I'm hoping the GT3 kicks it up a notch from the GTS experience and makes the drive even more entertaining while still retaining at least the comfort level of the 997.

This GT3 variant is something special. The lack of .2 generation cars in 2018 will bolster the desire for the 991 even more than at present.

I can relate to your situation both with age of kids and traveling. I spend 180days/year traveling. Have 2 houses on two continents and a 6 and 10 year old.
I have 6 cars so a lot of guys on here would give me a hard time for not putting enough miles on my cars. 😂😂😂
Trust me, I love driving.

I wouldn't give up both GTS and get rid of the back seats. It's so rewarding to take the kids and wife out during the weekends. I would sell my track car before I would give up on those experiences.

Sell the GTS cab and keep the coupe. Spider is also a keeper.

GT3 is not more important than kids.

Go for the GT3. Life is short and ownership will be a different experience from what you've had.

Go for it-- 991 GT3 and 981 Cayman GT4 or B-Spyder--best of both worlds !!!
