I think a lot of love for AMG and M cars because you can drive them without huge hit on maintenance and depreciation as well as good dealer network. I drive around 20-24 k miles a year, between work and fun and certainly can't afford that kind of mileage on a Ferrari .
AMG's depreciate worse than most cars out there. On the AMG GT forum, there is even a post titled, "Will the GT depreciate like all other AMG cars?". Long time MB/AMG owner, they are horrible for resale and they are slapping the AMG badge on everything now a days. As for the M cars, aren't they pretty unreliable since they went to the turbo engines? All I see on the BMW forums is about horrible reliability in the last 5 years or so, maybe I'm wrong? Just commenting because I see so many people choosing the AMG and M cars.
No P-car, and close to the same money as my GT3, I'm going with a new ACR or a AMG GTR(only the R), or a used 458 or Huracan.
Rented a 2017 AMG C63 in Florida this month for a few days, which was my first time ever driving any AMG car. Having owned many BMW 3-Series, including e90-series M3, have to say it was unimpressive. More of a luxury car with trick interior, loud engine, and poorer handling than BMW despite less comfortable suspension.
Cant imagine anyone finding AMG cars (considering virtually all are larger/heavier than C63) a replacement for Porsche 911 GT car.
Agree with many others... best non P-car I ever had was a BMW 3-Series. Probably my favorite, actually, was 2007 335i sedan with manual and Sport Pkg. I miss that car. light, balanced, nimble, comfortable, not too expensive, and engine was a honey. Felt great wringing it out and rowing through the gears.
In place of my Turbo Cayenne, a Mercedes Benz AMG E63 Wagon.
It's phenomenally fast, comfortable, handles well, stylish (for a wagon) and hauls even more stuff than the Cayenne.
As a replacement for my GT3, probably a McLaren 570S.
For a replacement for my 2011 Spyder, I am stumped.
A Miata does not have the power and Lotus barely exists over here as a car company.
Fortunately Porsche does exist at least until mandatory self driving cars that get 100 mpg are the law.
What's been on my mind lately...
570S or Huracan
Elise or S2000 as the perfect analog driver's car
Ariel Atom (if practicality was no object because why not)
R8 v10 plus. The only car with a NA engine and a level of reliability that comes close to the Porsche ownership experience. I.e. High performance with minimum ownership fuss.
