Can't believe I just now found this thread ! Your car is beautiful ... and your vision was spot on. The folks at the Porsche shop should be very proud of their work ... they may have in fact generated a few new clients.

918 - fantastic car, and in my opinion the "ultimate" road car made so far. However, I've owned it for 2 years, driven 7000 miles and enjoyed it. I am not one for keeping cars in the garage unused, and it's inevitable that this will happen more and more over time, as there are many there cars I want to try. I've also bought a 1960s race car to go to events like Monterey this year and hopefully Monaco Historique and Goodwood in 2018. Race cars are for race tracks and road cars are for the road. The number of times you can exploit a 918 on the road are very few unless you are passing through Germany!
It took a lot of thought, but I realised that every argument I had with myself ended up with the best reason for keeping it was 'to have a 918 in the garage' and it was more about not wanting to let it go, rather than all of the new things I was going to do with it. I received an unsolicited (very good!) offer last year, which I turned down, but once the idea of selling was put in my head, and you start to think about the value of the car you're driving around in, some of the 'fun' goes out if it.
When I ordered it, CGTs were $300k and I genuinely expected it to lose money in depreciation. Now I am lucky enough to be able to put it up for sale at a figure that would pay for lots of other toys. In the years of owning and racing cars, there's not many that I can say that about, so I am sleeping very well at night.
I can tick one more personal experience box - which is to sell a car at a big auction/concours event, with Villa d'Este being the European equivalent of Pebble Beach. If it doesn't sell, then that removes the dilemma for me, and I'll just drive it home. Won't be a bad day out either way...
(If it sells, you may well see an Arrow Blue CGT thread before long!)

How much will repair/maintenance concerns come into play for 918 once warranties start expiring. So many recalls already.. so much time already spent at dealer. It's as complex as any car could be.. who can stomach the repairs once they are on the owner? That's when values of CGT and 918 will intersect.
Smart man to sell now!

Now you know one of my secret reasons for painting the R ;-) It's a perfect souvenir I can use for a long time. (Can't imagine selling that)

Denny Hulme's Brabham Formula Junior works car from 1963.
(Non-PDK, with sunroof)

Jack Brabham talking to DH in car, before last ever FJunior race which he won, along with 6 other races that year. Ron Tauranac in the background.
Also raced in future years with a TwinCam in Aus/NZ by Frank Gardner, Roly Levis, Bill Stone.
We're putting it back to original FJ spec at the moment, hopefully race ready at end of May for International Trophy at Silverstone. (The car won same race meet in 1963...)
