The overrun pops/burbles are a product of the ECU. Completely manufactured noise.
I know, and that's the main reason I don't like it. The next reason is it really doesn't go with that car: it's not fast enough to pull it off. Just surprised the GT3 doesn't do it. Drove with my buddy for 300+ miles, and didn't notice the lack of pops/gurgles, but thought that was due to being super loud inside.
I love the burbling on E63.
In the 997's you could cheat and keep foot slightly on the throttle while the RPMs went down.
The 991 RS doesn't do anything fun sounding until 5K.

Which is smart! Manufacturers are starting to realize that part of what makes driving experience more visceral are the sounds and feelings you get when driving and not always just the performance. Hmmmm...sound familiar...:cough 911R cough: Nissan tuned the original G35 to have a very distinct and aggressive sound because they were one of the first manufacturers to realize that people are getting more enjoyment from the cars when the sound is aggressive and sounds like a sports car should. The new Flatplane Mustang engines actually had the firing order changed because with the new Flatplane V8, it sounded like a Ferrari and they wanted it to have a recognizeable Mustang V8 Rumble. So manufactured sounds through tuning of exhausts or intakes or ECU retarding or advancing timing etc. is fine by me, as long as it's not fake noises coming through a speaker, that's where I draw the line! So Porsche creating pops and burbles on overrun in the Carrera or Caymans etc. that's absolutely cool and helps make for a more fun driving experience. Anyone remember when in the 80's manufacturers were going the opposite direction and trying to make their cars as quiet as possible? Nowadays even luxury cars such as Mercedes, BMW's and Audi's sedan class cars have exhausts that have a nice rumble. In the 70's, 80's and 90's luxury brands advertised and prided themselves on how quiet they could make their cars. Funny how times change.
To the OP, don't worry, drive it for a little bit and then when the time's right, there's several really good exhaust options out there, several of which will give you back those pops and burbles that you crave, and they'll have the added benefit of being incredible sounding all the way up to that 9000K redline! Enjoy!
I am taking delivery of a '15 GT3 next week and just read that it does not pop/burble on overrun like my former 991.1 c2s with pse. I absolutely loved that on the c2s.
Any mods to enhance this on the GT3? Excited about the 9k redline - but I must have some overrun ear symphonics...
Best sounds of any PCar just close your eyes and listen.
