Wait, it's still using the Mezger? I thought the whole goal of the GT3-R project was to prove the newer engines could last for an endurance race and reap the rewards lighter, simpler construction, and of direct injection. The Mezger isn't even in road-going production. I'm a fan, don't get me wrong. I'm just curious about the choice.

I would also assume rumors of no more NA gt3rs, with gt2rs replacing it in lineup, also no longer valid. I would think this tells us both 2rs and 3rs will continue to live in the road car lineup going forward.

I am surprised because the vide clip sure sounded like the car lived in the lower rpm range.

Wheelbase 2516mm for RSR vs 2456mm for GT3 RS. So roughly 2.4" longer in mid-engine configuration. Consistent with what I was picking up on a month back from Sebring test photos (https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...sebring-2.html).

Some other interesting bits from Sporstcar365 story (http://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/w...n-gte-rules/):

"The actual rules in GTE allow to optimize the position of the engine,” Walliser told Sportscar365. “No production car with this layout is planned and no waiver was granted.”

Porsche’s decision to move the engine forward provides an improved weight balance, something the rear-engined 911s have recently struggled with, particularly with the arrival of the mid-engined GTE cars in recent years.

While the turbocharged Fords and Ferraris dominated this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, the decision to remain with a normally aspirated engine was made well before that, according to Walliser.

“We finally opted for a normally aspirated engine exactly one year ago,” Walliser said. “The final go was a meeting between Dr. Blume [Porsche CEO] and myself in Bahrain."

So much for the noise of there not being a .2GT3RS. Like I said, Porsche is all about making money so there will be a .2GT3RS AND a GT2/RS. They proved that with them building RSs through the end of this year.
