Hard to fathom how poorly most 911Rs were spec'd. I would've built mine with Tarpan Brown natural leather interior (a very under appreciated option but the best option aside from SMFW IMHO, SMFW, every leather option including air vents wrapped in leather, black Xenons (PDLS only made for .1, went to crap in .2 with silvery plastic housings), no Sirius XM garbage wart, Bose, white exterior with black wheels, no top stripes but side stripes in solid matte black.

True paint to sample would be matching a color supplied by the customer - e.g. a paint chip or a favorite object. Porsche's paint-to-sample usually means access to a larger than standard list of colors, but almost never to a customer supplied sample.
In the case of the 911R, the standard colors were white and silver. Any other color required a PTS allocation. In the early months of production, the PTS catalog for the 911R had just three colors - black, lava orange, and yellow. In the final months of production, the PTS catalog was expand to a much bigger range including historic Porsche colors.
I had a PTS allocation but wanted the car right away to drive across Europe before shipping it home to the USA, and the bejeweled Singer look is not for me. So I got an early allocation and paid $6950 for PTS black on my light-weight specced 911R, which I personally verified is a match for a 458 Speciale in acceleration. P.S.: Once you go black, you never go back

Non-metallic Black is a hot 911R color! Then again it's a hot color for ANY 911 IMHO. Haha
However, if I were a Porsche VIP, my 911R would've been ordered in Slate Grey. But I'm a nobody who jumped to pay up for black when one came for sale after looking daily for nearly two years.

Forgive me if this is a double posting. I've since removed the side stripes because nothing rubs me the wrong way more than yellow PORSCHE script to match the yellow calipers. (But it did look quite sharp.)

^^^ Thank you! Well, I neutered my 911R this morning (idiotic) removing full Akra exhaust. Probably put it back on. Took off because it was a bit too loud for my taste above 5k RPM. I can tell you it makes a significant difference. That exhaust is magic on the 911R. Now it feels pretty lame IMHO. The torque gain at 3k RPMs is dearly missed. The car just isn't the same without e exhaust. Is there a way to get the added torque without the added loudness?
I've driven many 991s and can tell you there is nothing like the 911R with full Akra exhaust. It is sublime. Essential. Near religious experience lol

Loving all of the wheel upgrades on here...I did the same recently on my 911R. I got a set of the BBS forged aluminum "7-spoke" and I love how it turned out. Such a cool car. Almost 6k miles since new and gets better every day.

@bluehorseshoe you can do DMS street headers or race headers with DMS orange lifetime muffler, the lifetime muffler will make it less loud
the headers will add power for sure best to check with @JamieBopp which is the best system / application
