Default Dust Boots/Protective Caps

I am looking to replace the dust boots that go on the six pistons on each of the front calipers of my 2016 GT3RS as they are starting to harden and crack from the heat of the track.

I believe the part number is 991-351-913-80 and they are called protective caps 30MM or overhaul kit.

Has anyone replaced these on their front calipers yet? My question is how many kits do I need to do all 12 pistons in the front calipers? 2 (1 for each caliper) 4 (2 kits per caliper) or 12 (one for each piston)? Anyone?

The part lists for $42, but I see it available from more like $34

I am picking mine up at the dealer in an hour. I had one bad boot but I think the kit contains three. I will post back tonight on what I find.

Ok here it is, Porsche # 99135191380 Set Protective caps, caliper. Each pack contains 6 caps enough to do one front caliper. The Brembo part # 98.5032.40 I only got fronts and the rears may be a different part number. I will install these tomorrow and report back on the procedure.

These need replacing?
On the 997's they burned off but if anything we rebuild them only when they started leaking or hanging and that takes quite a while and many track days.

Default replace or leave

TrakCar,

You have a fair point. On my 996TT with Motorsports 6-pods upfront, they burned off and I didn't replace them, nor did I have any problems with leakage, but I thought I'd treat this car better.

The one hassle with them burned off on the Motorsports 6-pods was that the yellow ceramic discs where held in place by the rubber boots when changing pads. Without the boots, I'd pull the pads and the discs would fall to the ground, and it was a bit of a PITA to hold them all on place (Caliper was still in place so vertical) and get the new pad in there. Not sure if the same would be true here.

I guess for $35 a side, they are kind of a rounding error compared to pads and fluid and if Porsche put them there, they probably had a reason. I will replace them when the burn up, which seems to be about once every three sets of front pads -- when replacing the second set of RE10s, I noticed they were starting to go, so thought I'd replace them this time around.

Why take a chance on getting moisture and dirt in your seals and possibly damage and pit your caliper. These are an easy fix, I plan to replace only the bad ones and save the other boots for future failures.

Right, I spent way to many hours fishing for pucks!

If they can be replaced, I am on the same page as you and just replace them. I just think I remember that I read somewhere that they didn't sell them separately somewhere on the these pages.

As always let us know what you find out, much appreciated.
I should have my car back soon with the 15 pages implemented and hope to go to the track asap.
