Default 911 RSR

Just returned from an awesome weekend doing the Masters at SPA.

One tidbit of information I heard is that the next RSR due in 2017 will have its engine moved forward and rotated thru 180 degrees to achieve a more mid-engine weight distribution. Will still be NA.

Rumors of engine relocation have been floating around for a while but that's the first I've heard someone say it'll be rotated. Makes sense as you can't move the engine/trans forward by much if at all without shortening the wheelbase, which is counterproductive for the application.

True mid-engine 911 GT3 RS....... Hmmmmmm.

Hopefully they will have to homologate a new RS .2 for that

we know by rules they can do it either without
a new homologated street car
(if the street car exceed 2500 units produced)

is that the reason they're pumping out RS.1 like cakes?

I hope they confirmed also 4.2L so a new street version is needed

The sound from the video suggest otherwise. Let's see

A more mid engine 4.2L NA .2RS would be sweet.

I had heard about the engine placement change previously, but it was always accompanied by the claim about turbocharging. NA is an interesting wrinkle...

I agree that the sound in the video would seem to indicate a turbo engine which is what I expected considering the class in which the RSR competes are all moving towards turbos to be competitive so the NA statement just might be wrong but he was pretty clear that they had rotated the engine 180 degrees. Let's see.

I'd buy that the engine would be rotated, kind of what they already have in the Boxter/Caymans. But I'm quite convinced to believe that it will be a Turbo, strongly considering the rumors of the new GT2/RS which the new GTE is based on. Especially it has been confirmed by a number of sources that there will be a GT2/RS.

There are still air restrictions for Turbos in GTE
why should they go crazy with a new TurboGT development
when they can optimize what they have already
and take advantage of turbo restrictions until 992 GTE hybrid?

Do they run an intake restrictor or just limit boost pressure?

So I just asked someone in my network who I thought might know a little more about the gt2rs vs gt3rs naming question, and they said the car is "more than that" and internally referred to as an "RS cup".. "gt3r engine with turbo and something special going on" so, for whatever that's worth...
