Marv, would you put a license plate on your GT3 cabriolet?

Ok seriously. Wtf? Isn't Porsche's flagship car a convertible? Last time I checked, the 918 is a Spyder. I think a GT3 Spyder would be nothing short of AWESOME.

Taking this whole thing seriously for a moment, the 918 was built from the ground up as a Spyder and is targeted for a different buyer and to a different purpose than the GT3 whose stated reason for existing is as a track car, even if some don't use it that way.

Unlike the 918, the GT3 is a variation of a normal production car, the 911 coupe. A GT3 Spyder would be based on the 911 Cab which is inherently heavier and less rigid than the coupe. It's wouldn't be a very good platform for a track car which is, in theory at least, what the GT3 is supposed to be. Endowing a 911 Cab with GT3 components would obviously be possible, but it wouldn't be competitive with a real GT3 and would run counter to what the GT3 is supposed to be about. And that's why Porsche won't build one.

Porsche already make a cabriolet GT3. It's called the 991 GTS Cabriolet. Even comes in manual.

It is possible but it would cost as much as a Fiat, they would have to build it as a CF monocoque and put a roof on it to keep it light, it would indeed be an awesome road car, but why go through all that pain when you can duplicate the fun in another Porsche.......
One question Marv: Have you driven the non GT4 i:e 981 Spyder ?
One of the best Ragtops on the road, you will love it and forgive Porsche for not chopping the roof of a GT3 quickly . My RS arrived in Februrary 681 mi so far " no need for volunteer drivers"
The Spyder arrived late April 2500 joyful mi. Trust me it will do it for you and you will close this thread

MARV, how about a cab without a retractable top?? Permanent top down GT3 with no space for a rear plate?

Oh Marv. When I saw the thread title I thought to myself, that is such a Marv thing to say. Sure enough, here you are. Have you found your spark plugs? I heard it was raining a lot in Texas recently, is the bridge keeping you dry?
