have the same combo 2015 GT3 and spyder. Recently drove a GT4 .
On the street , GT4 and spyder feel very similar, sound is better in spyder , steering/brakes slightly better in GT4 .
GT3 is a different beast. I will not let it go except for 991.2 or an RS . Like you, have been trying to get RS for some time without success as I am not willing to pay a significant premium. My new plan is use the GT3 as a bargaining tool to get the .2. I talked to a GM yesterday and he confirmed that they will be produced so the .2 is now real

GT3 man! Nothing else even comes close IMO. The GT4 is not a 911. For me, no need to go further. Not saying the GT4 isn't completely awesome compared to almost every other car out there. But versus the GT3?
I wouldn't even think about it.

No ego bruising.
No need to get pissy either....he asked for our opinions, so we are giving them.
Most, I would guess, just never felt the passion for, heritage of, subtle beauty of, and timeless, classic design that is a 911, for a cayman

Not pissy just having fun. I love 911s ever since it hung on my wall and dreams as a kid owning one
I do not deny the heritage of the 911. But once Porsche make a faster car with a Superior platform you can throw heritage out the window .
Wait until the 960 is announced- those that can afford nor have space for two will forget about Heritage.

GT3 slays the GT4
My first Porsche (gateway drug) was a 987 Cayman S. I am a fan of the Cayman platform. I own a 991GT3 and a GT4. I sold the GT4. I had a hard time picking one, only because of my practical side. There is no comparison. The GT3 slays the GT4. I didn't want to say that before because I was actively trying to sell the GT4. I really wanted to like the GT4 and save myself some money. I had a great time in the Gt4, but the GT3 still makes me laugh out loud ....9K !!!!

I had a 991 GT3 and traded it for the GT4. Have not one regret. The GT4 is awesome and so is the GT3. Only trade the GT3 if you just want/love a Manual. - and that is how it is. I just love manuals and the manual in this has got to be the best on the market. I find the GT4 to be more emotional/involving than/and the GT3 to have one of the best NA engines but clinical compared to the GT4.
If the GT4 had the GT3 engine at the same price - I would pay over MSRP for it and not the GT3.(love the mid-engine)

On another note I could not give up a GT3 for the GT4.
Great chassis if one wants a mid engine ride. Engine and trans so/so.

Have to disagree strongly on that point - the GT4 transmission is top tier. Calling it so-so is an outlier opinion.

Not saying its not a great transmission, but it's not in the the GT league. Just my take.
To clarify. After driving a .2 GT3 the Carrera engine and transmission don't compare. The GT4 has basicly the same components, yes?

My first Porsche was a 987.2 Boxster S and I love the feel of the 987/981 chassis even the non GT cars. However, you need a good engine and a good transmission to make a great car and the long gearing of the GT4 and the relatively weak engine with 309 torque didn't impress me much.
I would definitely look at getting a .2 GT4 if the next one comes with the full 325 torque and 400 HP of the 991.1 Carrera S engine, and with proper low track gearing. That plus a mid-engine GT chassis would make for a fun car.

You may prefer the 997 GT3, that's fine. But it's silly to call the GT4 "so-so".
Before the GT4, the best feeling transmission I've owned was in the s2000. The GT4 is better. I have no ego about this - every car has it's weaknesses...but the transmission is not one of them for the GT4.
