hey guys,
I'll get my RS next weekend... super excited.
Does everyone here keep the revs low until 3,000 kms??! seems like that will take forever to reach.. is that super conservative?

No you didn't. Search is your friend.
But OK....
Short: RTFM VS warm it up and go. All the time.
Keep it out of PDK-S for the first few heat cycles because it's the batsh!t mode and it will tag 8000 if you want to get by a Prius in the left lane in frustration..

The RS really comes alive above 5,000 rpm so if you follow the manual you won't get to experience that for a while. But if the car is a keeper I would try and follow the recommended break in procedure. Not an easy thing to do though as it revs so easily and is highly addictive.

Change the oil at 1,000 miles and switch to Porsche A40 approved Mobil 5W50.

AP recommends (according to a posting in rennteam) to never rev above 3K when the car is cold. also keep it below 4K revs until you have reached 500km and then raise by 500 revs every 100km you add.

Break in never ends
1) ANY mileage never rev over 3k rpm for the first 5/7 miles summer/winter and raise incrementally after warming the engine
2) Change oil and oil filters every 3/5k miles on Track/Street only usage
3) Approved oil 0-40W on winter
5-50W on summer
4) Never leave engine switched on when not driving
5) First 1k miles on brand new never rev over 4k rpm
6) From 1k to 2k miles raise incrementally 100miles 500rpm
7) Change/clean fuel/air filters when needed
8) Avoid driving the car for shorter than warm up mileage at point 1)
9)Last but not least ANY mileage Never forget to cool down in the opposite way you warm up the car

^^ why never leave engine switched on when not driving? When I used to do endurance racing the team would run the engines stationary from cold for 30 minutes. They are extremely focused on longevity of the engines, so curious what the perceived concerns might be of letting run stationary.

durability not racing (the , before or after not)
avoid that because not driving means not air flow cooling properly , engine over temp and engine/transmission hot/cold temp disalignment happen at idle not when driving
on some pro race before the start of course you can not drive here n there
nor in a traffic jam
but the last 2 is your choice

I drove the car carefully for 1000 miles changed the oil and now driving the car normally. I always warm up the car and the new RS has a blue warning light to let you know engine is cold. Additionally, if i drive the car hard, I cool it down the last mile or so before I put it away. This is the way I broke in my last RS and had ZERO problems with the motor and no oil leaks. Common sense is all you need. As I tell my kid, starting a car and revving it is like me getting them out of bed and making them go into a full sprint. They don't like it and nor does the car!!

1st 500km below 4,000 rpm.. Then gradually increase by 1,000 rpm every 100km.. At 1,000km change oil and then drive it like you stole it. Always drive at low rpm for the 1st 10 minutes.
Most people forget that these cars are redlined on the test tracks off the assembly line anyways.

CGT built at Leipzig (and under very different circumstances). RS built in Zuffenhausen. Have you been to the factory in Stuttgart? I'm guessing no, or you'd know why each is not lapped off the assembly line.... Because there is no track there! It is in the middle of the city! (okay, technically not the middle of the city, but still very urban)
If you dream that they truck them all over to Weissach, just go stand at the factory all day and watch: roll off assembly line, parked. Roll off assembly line, parked. The testing? Each car is plugged into a test computer and given a systems check. If I recall, the engine isn't even running for that test, but I might be remembering that incorrectly...
