The Poor Man's 911R.
Firstly, congrats to all the 918 and non-VIPs who were able to get an allocation! I personally don't fall into the camp of hating on the 918 owners who ponied up the cash for their cars, I would've if I could've! I'm only disappointed that Porsche supplied it's largest market with only enough cars to satisfy the VIP program and a handful of chosen ones so like many Rennlisters, my top spot resulted in bupkis.
Now I'm looking forward in hopes that there might be some future model based on the "R" who's numbers won't be as limited so us common-folk have a chance at ownership, hey I need something to keep me busy!
My "Poor Man's 911R" would include:
- 3.8l NA GT3 motor (or equivalent at the time of production)
- the 911R/upcoming GT3 6spd manual
- no Magnesium roof or CF-reinfoced panels to help lower exclusivity/price
- making PCCB's optional
- standard door interiors a la GT3 (again to keep cost down)
- making the rear seats optional for those that want it
Basically this car would be 911R inspired but with GT3 level equipment/options to keep things off-the-shelf and "affordable". It would still be a special driver's car, GT developed, just not as limited as the R was, with the price coming in or around the same as a GT3. My hope is that the increased production numbers of a GT3 based variant there at least be spillover to non-VIP owners after VIP's had their round of orders.
Of course a name change would be needed since nobody would want to take away the cachet/value of the "R" moniker, so maybe it's a 2020/21 "911ST" to celebrate that model's 50th anniversary.
Am I living in a fantasy? The 911GTS just doesn't do it for me and while I wouldn't kick a 911.2 manual-GT3 out of bed but I really prefer the subtlety and experience the "R" was going to provide.

Mine would be a 991 C2S manual going for about $50K or less with branded title.
Add oil cooler, add CUP lightweight bumper, hood, doors, roof and lexan, add CUP uprights and PFC brakes, add CUP wing, 2 Recaro's. Tune the crap out of it, straight exhaust. Replace motors as needed.
Wrap it like a CUP car.
Or wait for the first Salvage title GT4 and do the same..

The Only issue about the 918 Owners and other VIPs have to keep their cars a specified amount of time or they face getting kicked off the list. That amount of time I cannot remember but I'm cartain someone could cite the number of months right off the bat. Something tells me it is 18 months!(?)
