Wow.

This will defiantly take a hit on the 997 GT3 market as they thought it was the last maunal GT car.

Hope they change their mind about the RS, it should offer a manual as well.

Will they launch a GT2 before a GT2 RS - or skip right to the RS variant?

The glorious new 911 R only has one transmission option: A fantastic six-speed manual. Many are viewing it as Porsche making a concession to those that were upset there was no option of a manual in the new 911 GT3. At the Geneva Motor Show, Porsche's head of GT cars, Andreas Preuninger, confirmed that the next 911 GT3 will get a manual gearbox option, and it will be the six-speed from the 911 R.

In a conversation with AutocarAutocar, Preuninger confirmed that the GT3 will get a stick shift while the GT3 RS will remain PDK-only. He also said that the GT cars will remain naturally aspirated for the foreseeable future.

Well, all of them, except the upcoming 911 GT2. Preuninger also confirmed that his team is working on a new GT2, which he says is not a widowmaker but is tough to control. Just what we'd expect.

Look for the GT2 to be one of the next new models that Porsche's GT division unveils for the 911, and we'd imagine it'll be unbelievably powerful.

Choices are great. Manuals are better. I think everyone who wants a .2 GT3 will probably get one especially since some will want GT2's, especially current GT3 owners.

Call me crazy but if I get a .2 GT3, I want pdk. Yes I do know how to drive manual. Up to 3 years ago I had never owned a auto.

Already first at my dealer for a GT2 . I wish they would just skip to an RS. It's a waste to do a GT2 then GT2 RS.

PAG, like most auto manufacturer, always ensures it can point to a better car in their next generation. The argument about what better means is usually reduced to numbers. 0-60, Ring time, etc. I wonder what PAG will do to make sure the 991.2 GT3 with a MT will be measurably "better" than the .1. So besides endowing it with the RS' 4.0 what else will be in store? Ideas?

Few things I would like to see:

1) optional rear seats
2) Additional 20mm suspension drop when lift is equipped
3) No smoking on start up :-)
4) Normal, Sport and Sport plus modes for the PDK gearbox
5) Built in track data collection with video support
6) optional roll bar and 5 point belts
7) optional dual mass gearbox for less clunky low speed and optional creep
8) No buffeting with the windows down at 90mph+
9) A standard tire that is actually possible to buy spares, or a cost efficient track wheel/tire option
10) A oil tank where the top to the bottom of the gauge is exact one quart
11) Optional CF body panels, for example the roof
12) Apple CarPlay
13) An exact weight listed next to every option on the configuration

Etc....

But if you read the AutoCar article Preuninger says no such thing.

But then who am I to let facts get in the way of a good Internet discussion.

True that he didn't say that in the auto car article.

He did say that GT cars would stay naturally aspirated at another time. But as we all know, the decision isn't entirely up to him.

Yes, definitely meant the quote attributed to AP saying manual in next GT3.

And, as an aside, "for the foreseeable future" leaves alot of wriggle room. That could mean tomorrow, which is the future and foreseeable, as well as 10 years from now, which is also the future and also technically foreseeable.

I think the title of this thread should be changed to 'another article spreads rumor and innuendo'. Or 'more fuel for the gullible'.

Oh, the play on words. Love it.
