Phil,

You will be driving to your first Tack day in a new Porsche :
So U have already won the race and your doing a DE for FUN and a learning to have Fun with your car

what to bring:
Fat wallet
Level Head
12 pak bottled water
completed TECH form
snell rated Helmet 2010 or newer
tire gauge
blue tape
your assigned #'s for both sides
attentive attitude with your instructors directives
you'll have plenty of attention with the gang and PT3's debut , should be good

That's a nice prep for the slippery slope you are about head down

Before each event i re-torque my wheels and check brakes/pads - i do not take the jack, jack stands to the track - if the worst happens i assume i can borrow these - i do take torque wrench, breaker bar and pads.

One thing not mentioned so - glass cleaner for all those bugs you are goring to collect.

Mequiars NXT Tech Wax 2.0 in a purple bottle pick up a bottle great stuff for spot cleaning and hand full of rags

Griots Bug & Smudge remover works great.

Damn it! Damn it!! Damn it!!! Now you tell me. Here all this time, I've only been putting on freshies for each DAY, not each SESSION. No wonder I'm no longer winning all my DEs!

As I got into bike track days I used to bring the kitchen sink and then started backing off as I never used the stuff I'd brought and didn't want to be messing with throttle bodies in a parking lot anyway. I'm in Mr Deacon's camp above now for car track days. My essentials:

Tire gauge (maybe a mini-compressor to get pressures back to road pressures)
Blue painters and duct tape plus knife - nobody should leave home without these items!!
Oil - especially if first second track day.
Go-pro's and mounts. Rennlist does a nice attachment to a front tow-eye.
I install a toe eye but not essential.
Water - and some snacks plus food if not provided on the day.
Chair.
Some glass cleaner and wipes although the big cleaning effort takes place the day after. (Mother's 3R to remove the rubber FTW)
And make sure you've CONSIDERED insurance. $150k car will cost you with all admin charges etc approx $900. Lots but most people can probably afford $900, few can afford another $150k. Or go for a 12 month at about $5k that covers unlimited days.
After a few track days consider an AiM SoloDL - awesome bit of kit and really good improvement tool. NOT needed for first few track days I'd suggest.

And for what it's worth I found going out with a more experienced driver helps you get the line, turn in points, late/early apexes etc and then get them to come out with you after you're "warmed-up". This accelerated my learning I believe.
I also try and cheat by parking next to Joe & Ben cos they have everything (read Joe's blog *** thread as it also has loads of good info). Avoid Mooty as you WILL go deaf when he starts up the "Beast" - he's in excess of 106dB!!

For the time being I'm not going to trailer the car. I'm not competing...yet! This is my first season so I don't intend to push it to the limits to the point of changing pads and break fluid at the track. Unless I'm mistaken...? The type of tracking I imagine doing this year are HPDE's, PCA lead events, private rented track days and member days at NJMP.

Finally! Someone's paying attention! Lol. You are spot on with my intentions this first season out. I'm ready to be very deliberate in how I approach this...nice and slow while I'm learning...slowly building speed as I build my abilities.

Thanks Deacon! This is VERY helpful.

What 'stickers' are you referring to?

Also...I sense a joke here.... I'm under the impression there isn't any peer to peer competition at driver education days.... So what am I missing here?

Stickers is racing slang for brand new tires. In other words, they still have the stickers (labels) on them, because they are brand new. No one bothers to peel them off, since they will be shredded off in less than a lap.

And if you think there is no competition what so ever in the course of a DE, you know absolutely nothing about human nature. Mix a RACE track, fast cars, big egos and ungodly sums of money and there is nothing but competition.

But, you're new, so you'll start to get a sense of it at the drivers meeting. When they tell you all to leave your egos at the door and the danger of the red mist.

No joke.

Ahhhhhh....got it! Thank you!

As for competition at a DE... I meant formal/organized competition. I'm WELL aware of competitive personalities...I'm in sales for a large, Silicon Valley enterprise software company...
We LIVE to eat competitions lunch! And we are mostly 'type A' folks...
So, I would expect some level of informal competition between folks at a DE... I'm just not familiar with how they 'flow'.

Thanks again for the education.
