Anyone Doing Camp 4 Finland Next Week?
#49
Day two was more exercises tying together the techniques we learned yesterday. The day ended with a tricky and difficult figure 8 course. The outer ends were really tough. You had to be slow, smooth and gentle and deft on the throttle. A few of our group required a tug to get the cars out of the snowbanks.
I'm off for the snowmobile tour now. Hope I can survive until dinner!

LOL, you have LED lighting and heated seats and steering wheel ;-)
Don't make it sound like you are surviving LOL
Enjoy the snow mobile, its really cold and a bit rough if it snows hard.
Say hi to my raindeer buddy!!

I totally embarrassed myself on the snowmobile ride. I purposely went a little wide, off into the fresh untracked snow. All was grand for a moment, then as I slowed a little for the rider ahead, the machine suddenly keeled over in the soft snow! And damn, if it wasn't deep. Up to my knees. It took some wrestling from three of us to get the machine upright and back on the hard pack.
Yes, I did see your reindeer buddy! After snowmobiling we had dinner in a quaint little place in the village called Sami's Hut. Bar-Q-Que'd salmon was the main course, along with some varieties of reindeer meat. They had a small young reindeer outside for us to see as we were leaving. Unfortunately, I missed it and didn't realize it until I was already on the bus. We all joked he was dinner for the next group.

We do get out of the car maybe 4 times during the day and stand for a few minutes while the instructor briefs us on the exercise. The only thing that gets cold is my face. Bring a scarf. I wish I had. Obviously, you are out of the car for driver changes, but the snow is either super hard packed, or it's ice. And, of course, you walk to/from the car to begin and end your day, as well as a lunch break. But really, not nearly as cold as I thought. The temps have been reasonable. Mostly in the range of -15 C to -8 C. The wind can make it feel much colder. I did note that prior to my arrival it was -32 C.

Thanks for the info. Your report is comforting. I have been a bit fixated on what to pack to stop getting cold. I tend to get super cold hands and feet.
I am enjoying your posts very much.

Your suggestion of racing glove seems like a good idea but I wouldn't know one racing glove from the other having never used one.
What would you suggest? I am aware of Sparco gloves but that is about all.

I have OMP. There's lots of them out there. I think you basically need gloves that provide a good grip and tactile feel. It doesn't necessarily have to be a racing glove.
You wear gloves because under stress and high adrenaline levels your hands start sweating.

You certainly don't need gloves in the car, especially racing gloves. The car is warm, the seat AND steering wheel are heated. I race and track extensively, so without racing gloves, I would feel naked. They give you such good grip on the wheel. Plus, drifting the car means your hands are flying all over the wheel. I can easily imagine getting a blister.
I use Sparco Tide gloves. Go try on a bunch to see what you like.
FWIW: Lots of students were taking off their jackets, gloves and hats in their cars. I just found that to be a time waster, plus I knew I'd likely forget something in the car at the end of the day (this happened a LOT to some folks, as the bus would have to go back because they forgot something).

I didn't get to take a photo, but there are six 991 GT3 RSs here, sitting outside, covered in snow. I asked why, and they said the Cup cars and the 918s get the garage.
Just wanted to share that for all you folks who never let your car even see rain, let alone snow.
BTW: If you do get a chance to come here, be sure to get hot laps in the Panamera taxi. OMG!
