HG Motorsports Porsche 991 GT3 Lava Project
Hi everyone, let’s make our first build thread also our introductory post. We are HG Motorsports, San Diego’s premier tuning studio with a focus on luxury vehicles, exotics and race cars.
Long story short, our roots date back to 1969 with the establishment of Heinz Gietz Autohaus, which was a staple of Mercedes-Benz sales and service in La Jolla, California. Starting in 2004, HG Motorsports was born from Heinz Gietz Autohaus with a focus on performance tuning and race cars. Since then, we’ve expanded to many other platforms. That’s where Porsche comes in. Over the years we’ve worked on everything from air-cooled resto projects, to RUF unicorns to brand new 991 GT3’s.
For reference, this video shows what we're all about...
Managing this account is Danny Cruz, Marketing Director at HGMS. For any inquiries you can contact me directly at dcruz@hgmotorsports.com - You can also call 1-619-504-8140 to reach us.
To start off, let’s look at a car we just finished working on -- A brand new, Lava Orange Porsche 991 GT3. A number of the parts that went on the car were from a name you should probably know well from the Rennlist forums, BBI Autosport.
Here’s what the car got:
This is a car that arrived at the HG Motorsports Tuning Studio even before the owner had actually driven it. The car came straight from the dealership and arrived at our door with roughly 10 miles on the clock.
We’ll be posting up more details about the build in the coming weeks. However, at the moment, like many of you, we are trying to wrap up the year. After all, New Year’s Eve is tomorrow.
In the meantime however, we’d like to leave you with a number of photos from the build before we go into more detail.
We set up a quick blog post to introduce the car. You can find that here.
We'll follow up with more details regarding this build very soon. We also have a video of the exhaust install that we'll be publishing.
For now, HAPPY NEW YEAR! And a BIG WELCOME to 2016! dcruz@hgmotorsports.com

Over the holidays, good folks got busy and captured some sound and video clips of the 991 GT3 Akrapovic exhaust. Still not wringing the car, so this is pretty mellow. But it sounds AWESOME. Check it out (for better sound quality, watch on YouTube and select HD):
Here's a time-lapse of the exhaust installation process. A basically a couple of hours of work fast-forwarded into a few minutes.
Here are the components of the BBI Street Cup suspension installed.
Then it's off to our alignment rack to dial in the suspension.
Happy owner with one amazing car GT3. No better way to enhance the holidays. Job done, time to drive...

Nordschleife Master
I noticed the back, black, lower lip was changed. I've never seen anything like that. Is it bigger (taller) and does it do anything other than for looks?

Thank you!
Hi Jurrian. Hope you had a great New Year's weekend.
Yes, absolutely, There's more that could be done. This one got the exhaust and a tune, which is great. Thing is, it always depends on how much the customer wants to do. Additionally, this car is still brand new. Maybe after the customer has broken it in and gotten used to the power, we might see it back here in the future for more. Being a GT3, we're likely never seeing forced induction, but there's definitely more we could do while still N/A.
Hi Jerry, thank you. We work many brands... that said, I'm a Porsche enthusiast, so I enjoy this aspect of the business quite a bit. -Danny
Nope, not yet. Mainly because of the car still being new. Our Tech, Alain Alba, didn't even punch the throttle past 2500 RPM - even with the engine warmed up. In fact, we got a couple of exhaust clips for a video and for the customer to listen to, but again, we only blipped the throttle to roughly 2500 RPM. Given that, we wouldn't be able to do redline pulls on the dyno as of yet. Next GT3 we get will hopefully have more miles on it and we'll do it then. This car lives a little far from us, so it'll be a while before we see it back here.
I'm going to work on some of the content I gathered from the build and post it up here soon... Have a great first week of 2016! -D
