^no you don't have to replace it every six months. It depends on your use. Tracked cars might experience higher wear. I could also see a weekend car having the film last years with less exposure to sun and less surface impacts.
That's incredible considering Opticoat isn't even one of the better looking coatings to my eye. In any case, I strongly believe it's all about the surface prep.

The apples and oranges. Xpel is to protect against debris like rock chips by applying what is essentially a padded layer on the surface. Ceramic coatings are more like an incredibly durable wax. Films are more like a necessary evil. Even the best ones, you can still tell film is on the car, albeit you have to get very close. But ceramic coatings cannot protect against rock chips. I'm doing clear film on the heavy rock chip areas and then coating to the rest of the paint. To be clear, those that coat and film on same surface must apply the film first and then coat the film.

so would you recommend without UV protection for partial wraps to keep the paint the same in all areas, and with UV protection for full wraps?

Fading, however, isn't the only issue as some film yellows. Again, talk to the installer about this.
If I had another white car I would probably do a full wrap with UV protection, but maybe someone with more knowledge that I could chime in here. I'm not sure if the often unavoidable yellowing of the paint on white cars is from UV or if it occurs for some other reason.

Our films allow for UV penetration. This is because most people will cover just the front end and "high impact areas." So our films allow for UV to penetrate through the clear bra

16'991GT3-- I live in Boston and I've had two Caymans wrapped by Unique. These guys are top notch. Their work is excellent. They're not cheap but they're not the most expensive either. Rick, the owner has a Cayman GTS. He's a brother!!
