OT: 570S reviews are in

Sounds like a very worthy competitor to the 991 Turbo S given that it's designed mainly for street use, much more ergonomic to live with daily, turbo, the torque, horsepower, and price are all at Turbo S levels, and the 570S will likely experience Turbo S depreciation.
I don't know what Harris was thinking when he briefly compared it to a GT3. The 650S is a GT3/RS competitor, not the 570S.
Personally, I would call the 570S a starter supercar, similar to an R8 or NSX. The 570/R8/NSX are reasonable vehicles for a someone who isn't a track rat to dip their toes into supercar waters and enjoy a fun and powerful weekend car without spending 650S, 458/488, or Lambo money.
Styling of the 570/R8/NSX is still a bit extreme for many of us who have to work at regular offices and don't want too much attention drawn to our cars by our clients/customers, so these cars are generally weekend cars unless you work in an industry where that doesn't matter.
If you want junior supercar power and a more benign appearance to drive to your office everyday, not much competes with the 911 Turbo S.

I have been following Mclaren and impressed with the 650s and 675LT. So much so, I was worried about liking the 570s potentially too much. The initial reviews are happily disappointing - IMO the 570s moves backwards, more analog, less grip and a common theme more playful. Yes, this is by design, but I had been expecting more of the technology from the P1, 650s and 675LT to flow down into the 570s. In some ways it has, with the mighty 3.8 liter twin turbo, the carbon tub and scissor doors, but spending that much for something playful?
These days so many cars are so good with super car power, there is a lot to choose from. But as far as the 570s for me, gladly the want is not there. A lightly used 650s would be my choice. That said, the GT3 pound for pound, is really unbeatable and matches up well against the mighty 650s.

Seems like a really nice car, but I don't understand the concept of developing a car with such high performance mainly for the road. IMO, better strategy would be to develop it for both track and road - like the GT3 - and market it accordingly. No reason it shouldn't be competing with the GT3, GT-S, and M4 CSL.

The 570 will be about $185k before options. I'm curious how much cheaper the 540 will be. Because at 530bhp or so, and let's assume $150k, it would really make the competition stiff with the 991. I love Porsche, but there's no question the McLaren is more exotic with a CF tub and those doors, not to mention gobs of power. At that price point and today's market, McLaren will have a tough time keeping up with orders. Competition is always a good thing.
As a side point, I do think the rear lights and the side door vent are ugly. 650 is a much prettier car.
