Not to worry. Once broken in, it makes even more noise! Haha! I agree with the others that the culprit is the light weight fly wheel. If it had a heavier fly wheel it would be slower getting into its prime rev range, given its relatively modest amount of low end torque. Amazingly quick and precise shifts though for a car with such a light weight fly wheel.

My 07 RS sounds like a friggen cement mixer at idle. Porsche engineers easily could make it very quiet. But why? Sounds like a beast. Dealer head wrench told me the sound was engineered in to the car. Ya want a quiet fat old mans road boat? Buy a TT. That is how I felt about my TT after getting the RS.

My experience is only with a GT3. It makes lots of noises. When I come to a stop, it sounds like I'm on the ascent of the first hill on a roller coaster if I don't manually downshift. "click-click-click" with each automatic downshift. I assume other have the same sound, no?

Hello Mech33,

Hope all is well with you. Today in Illinois we have near 80 degree weather. So after washing my car, I took her out for a spin. The "noise" is very prominent when engine is cold. After normal operating temperature have been attained I drive the car gently and get her up to speed as temperature rises past the cold engine indicator. At which point that noise disappears.

I paid closer attention to that noise, and once I get to idle at a stop, you are right I can still hear that noise although the sound is little more subdued. My car has just crossed 100 miles and just being gentle with her. I try and avoid traffic and get her either on the highway or the back roads. I suppose that noise just comes with the territory when owning these GT Porsche cars.

Drive safe,

I was also surprised by the rattles when I picked up my 991rs. But it's all fine and due to the diff and light flywheel. I love it. Before I got the car I feared it would have lost all that, and I was surprised it all even more apparent than previous cars.

Are you referring to the factory recommended break in procedure?

I don't believe that's the case, atleast not with mine. I did the suggested break-in and I still have all the rattles and I'm glad.

This is why I asked my question above. Some people feel that there are better break in procedures than what the factory recommends.
