why not? make more cars make more profit, with the VAG diesel issue i think some more income might help

The profit margins on GT cars is one of the lowest in the Porsche lineup, if not the lowest.
Conceivably, PAG could triple production of the GT3 and the marginal profits from that additional production would barely amount to a rounding error in terms of covering the potential fines/penalties associated with the diesel emissions issue, most of which will probably be covered by existing reserves or insurance.

GT cars are halo cars.
They bring a certain panache and exclusivity to the brand.
Don't get me wrong, GT cars not loss leaders. PAG is making money off of each GT3 and RS, just not nearly as much as say a base Carrera or a Macan.

Typically, the more 'enthusiast-based' models are a higher margin product.

Additionally, I'm not some punk coming out of a 'boy racer' car...or a douche just wanting to be seen in a 'cool car'.... Or a poser just wanting to drive a 'race car' on the street...or a jack-hole looking to flip for profit.
I'm a racing enthusiast looking for the most appropriate street-able track car for my needs, wants and budget.
Isn't that the exact target for the GT3?

A lot of folks are waiting on the side lines (including myself) for Porsche to prove this hardware or some derivative of it in racing campaigns. Until that happens, the full demand for the RS is not in the mix.

A Wall Street friend ones told me, if you jump into a cab and he gives you advice on how to invest your money. Sell everything and run! The crash is coming. I see the same tendencies in today's car market. Every car magazine and even non car enthusiast are talking about what cars we should buy as "investments"!

It's a pretty well accepted adage in the automotive industry.
