I was going to say as well...the 911 isn't the start. Panamara and Cayenne all had hybrid options for a few years now and like Pete said, the Cayenne GTS lost it's V8 for a turbo 6. Macans don't even have an NA option. In fact the 911 is the second to last line up seeing these changes. It will be across the board with the new motors for the Boxter and Cayman.
BTW Porsche also has more hybrid models than any other manufacturer, and they are obviously going to be marketing electric cars heavily after the showing at Geneva.

This is a shame where they are going with cars...if I wanted to drive a hybrid I'd go drive my Prius.

NA ICE engine = Well understood, highly developed; limited future development due to political/regulatory climate and diminishing returns
FI ICE engine = Well understood, highly developed; significant near-term development courtesy of political/regulatory climate, but will be focused on emissions and efficiency moreso than outright performance
Hybrid = Relatively new, emergent technology; battery technology is developing rapidly. Who's to say that a theoretical hybrid 911 a decade from now wouldn't be a great car?

Note how much the press is having a field day with the Tesla P85D and it's "Insane" mode BS. Sure, it'll knock your head off in a straight line, but I wonder how many laps that 5,000 Lb sedan can do around a racetrack before it runs out of juice, or worse.

Battery weight. Heat. Charge/Discharge cycles.

Maybe it's pretenting to be a corvette?

As for the battery deficiencies, the point I attempted to make is simple - battery tech is far less developed than internal combustion engine tech (NA or FI). It has already come quite far, and many automakers envision batteries supplementing their future high performance cars. Or do you think Porsche, Ferrari, and McLaren collaborated on their hypercars?

The popular press loves the Tesla, sure. The auto press doesn't necessarily lionize Tesla unduly, IMO.

Not sure if anyone has seen or read this, but at least the 991 generation map is chartered.

I think I read that it's 40lbs more than the outgoing 3.8. The block is lighter and stronger, it has no iron liners, a simpler intake plenum, and a couple other changes that lighten it, but then 2 turbos, plumbing, and intercoolers make up the savings and increase the net to ~40 over.
