Another should i trade this for that thread: 997 gt2 to 991 gt3
Recently acquired a 997 GT two, have been building a house and basically have been unable to even put a few hundred miles on it, definitely don't see major track time in the future and potential future maintenance is scaring me as I know the pipes have not been pinned. I have the opportunity to get a 2016 Gt3allocation with a very small premium although if I work them hard I think it'll be MSRP. I have several private interested parties in the GT2 without even placing it on the market and I have a 996 turbo that fulfills my boosted needs. 991 is attractive for the fact that I have a new car warranty no worries about welded pipes and likely be able to hang onto it for 10 years or more without anything but minor maintenance issues
Basically my question is will I be giving up a very unique 997 for a more common 991 and will I be missing that 997 6 speed row your own boat... i used to track not infrequently and maybe as things change in my crazy life I'll get back to at least one or two events per year so I assume either car will suffice. There's also a sizable tax advantage to trade in the 997 for the 991. I never purchase an automobile with $ appreciation in mind, I think you'd be foolish unless you're dealing in extreme rare examples of vintage cars, (Ferrari)... But will I be kicking myself in the future if the GT two values start to mimic the GT three of the same generation…
I'm Posting in this section is I am leaning in the 991 Direction and I respect the contributions from the high post count 997 brethren however believe some of the vehement 997 lovers view their cars through six speed filtered glasses

Well we have the same story.. almost same. I have a 997 GT2 and I had it for quite awhile, been thinking if I should sell it for a 991 GT3. After a few weeks of thinking and researching about the 991, its definitely a better car if you compare it with the 997… whether it's a turbo, GT3, GT2 or even an RS! The only thing holding me back is the MT of my GT2 and of course the power, until this… My dealer offered me a full option 991RS!!! It made it easier for me, I said yes to the 991RS and I'm planning to let go of my GT2. (for the right price of course) But best way is too keep the GT2 and get a 991 GT3

911 RS... I Completely agree, I would never pass up an RS variant, a little more difficult decision with a plain GT3... Congrats, do you get a tax trade benefit in your state

I would keep the 2 for a regular 3 and only make the trade for an RS. The 3 has its own set of maintenance issues going on and really hard to ascertain the longevity of the car now.
Lots of 3s being traded at the moment and you could probably pick up a used one very shortly at a good number with 6 year warranty if you still wanted to make the swap.

Thanks! No not really… Yeah you can also consider an RS to trade with your GT2, so it's a lot easier for you to decide haha! In the long run, the GT2 might be better than the 991GT3… the value and forced induction power. Well it's a different story at the track

If i had the opportunity to get an RS i would in a heartbeat, i ve bought at least a dozen p cars in the last 6 years but never established a dealer relationship(always buying from different dealers), so never been able to get high enough on the list. Our region has too many nonenthusiasts with huge $$$ and smaller dealerships with limited allocations. This near msrp gt3 is enticement by the local dealer to establish a relationship...i was a bit surprised....

Having had a little seat time in each, I would keep the GT2. It's a really special car. If I could upgrade to an RS, I might consider it.
The maintenance you fear is probably only around $3-4K and GT2's are historically pretty reliable. Also, there is no way I would pay over sticker for a 991 GT3. YMMV.

Race Car
I've owned both.
I'd take my GT2 back in an instant if I could. Probably the best car I've ever had. (and I am not a fan of forced induction engines)
The GT3 is a great car, but there is no sense of accomplishment like there is after driving the GT2. An unmolested, unmodified GT2 will become harder to find as time goes on.
Probably the only thing I'd trade a GT2 for would be a 4.0 GT3 or a GT2RS.

I have a 991 GT3. Before I bought it, I had a chance to get a GT2 at a reasonable price. With my use being mainly lots of track, I don't regret the decision to get the GT3. But in your situation, I'd keep the GT2. If not abused, it should continue to go up in value, and should be more fun on the road.

I strongly suggest anyone the currently owns a 7 GT2 get rid of it and get your order in on a GT3...and when you do please PM me if your interested in selling the GT2, I'm a buyer and I'm serious.

You and I picked up GT2's around the same time. Coming out of a .1 RS; I thought it was an interesting car to have.
Turns out that although it's relatively rare; it's not that unique amongst its 997 brethren other than a two wheel drive turbo.
I found that I'm not in love with turbos. My '15 M6 is a turbo. Gobs of power and a great DD. The gt2 is not a DD by any measure.
I don't hold onto cars as investments. I just enjoy them when I can. The gt2 just didn't inspire me. I tried to fall in love with it. It didn't happen.
I found I'm a NA motor type of guy. I love the roar of the NA system. Sure it has less power overall, but the gt2 just spun its wheels in every gear and quite frankly wasn't that practical. It literally went nowhere really fast.
I'm a gt3 guy. I raced my '04 RSR like it was stolen. Sold it for a profit. I don't miss any of the cars I've had or the potential value I might have gained had I held onto them.
Long story short. (I know, too late)....traded it for a 2015 GT3. No remorse here. It's like getting a new girlfriend. We all remember how that was, right?? Nothing better.
Get the car you want. Never lament any choice over keeping or selling/trading
