Is the GT3 Quicker than the GT3 RS?
I usually don't care about 0-60 times, they are generally the stuff of magazine racing. If anything, I usually like to look at a quarter mile time for purposes of comparison. But, I noticed that the 0-60 times for the GT3-RS at 3.3 seconds as reported by Wiki is slower than GT3 reported at 3.1 or 3.0 seconds as reported by Car and Driver and Road and Track.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_911_GT3
I went back to look at the link posted and the detailed page from C&D that previously existed was wiped and a replacement page that was abbreviated still said a 3 second time but was not as convincing as the earlier version that used to exist there. I considered changing the Wiki post I made about the 0-60 time for the GT3 that came in at 3 seconds flat per C&D. But, I left it alone since it is a documented article.
So, later in time and sure enough, someone changed my initial post to reflect a 0-60 time of the GT3 as being under 3.5 seconds. Now, here is the thing, C&D had done the test and they got a 3.0 or they wouldn't have published that time. I did a check with R&T and they have a 3.1 second time. So, I've updated the information because, I have no idea where the other guy came up with the under 3.5 second time that wasn't referenced with any citation. The Wiki site now reflects a GT3 0-60 claimed time of 3.1 seconds or less since there are two articles that support that as a matter of fact.
So, it begs the question, how fast is the GT3-RS? Porsche is likely conservative. You'd like to think it's faster than the GT3 but, perhaps, like it's top speed being less than the GT3 because of it's aero, it's also slightly slower to sixty? Wait, never mind. Wiki shows the GT3-RS takes 3.3 seconds to sixty but the Porsche site says 3.1 seconds. http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/911/911-gt3-rs/ Oh, wait again, that's a 0-62. Hrm, yeah, so, RS is quicker? Hrm, the press release in the footnote says 0-60 at 3.1. Eh, it's just all over the place.

The 458 feels faster by the seat of my pants meter, yet the published specs show 3.3 0-60. The 458 is similar in weight with almost 100 more HP...something doesn't add up.

That's why I like the 458 over the GT3...to get the satisfaction I get on the street with the 458...I would need to be on the track with the GT3. Considering I will only do a few track days a year, the Ferrari makes me want to drive it more often. YMMV.

The RS is surely faster.. U have more power and more rear tire..
U cannot completely rely on tests unless they are made on both cars on the same day and in the same conditions..
This video (http://youtu.be/AASwaWt3F5c) of the 2 speedos side by side shows the Gt3 being faster than the RS.. But as u notice, the RS stalls for some reason in 1st gear.. (Wheelspin)
A second acceleration video was released, of a silver RS, but i can't seem to find it, where the RS has a much better launch and u can clearly see the difference..

Car and driver posts First Drive results which are typically slower than their instrument test results. The instrument test is when they spend a lot of time with the car and try to get the best possible result from it.
So the RS is faster on their first drive than their final GT3 result, but watch for the RS to be faster again in the instrument test.
Then you have all the variables of weather etc to overlay on different days.
Here's an example using the GT3 and GT3 RS:
first drive: GT3 RS 0-60 2.9 sec, 0-100 6.9 sec
instrument test: GT3 0-60 3.0 sec , 0-100 7.1 sec
first drive: GT3 0-60 3.3 sec, 0-100 7.9 sec

You really have the look at the 1/4 mile trap speed. The 458 traps around 130 MPH, while the GT3 is around 125 MPH. As the speed increases, the 458 will pull away.

Very few 458's have trapped 130. Most are mid 120's.

Ps I apologize for straying OT on th OP. The RS will be/is faster than the Gt3...not too hard to imagine.

Agreed, the gt3 feels so much more planted and precise, Atleast my experience when I drove the 458 at quite a range of speeds. Sound certianly is a factor in the sensation of speed. Just switching out my side mufflers with bipass's makes my gt3 much louder and feels faster and more excelerating as well but I know it's not. Huge fan of Ferrari and the 458 but it's no gt3 and while I'll add a 458 to the stable it can never replace the gt3

GT3 with LWB is slightly lighter than GT3 RS with LWB, but RS has 25 more hp. RS should be a little quicker in a straight line.
