Default Headlight Crack

Just noticed that I have some cracking at the lower front edge of one of my headlights. Unfortunately, the XPEL film on the lights leaves about 1/4" of the lens exposed around the perimeter.

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace just the lens part of the assembly?

It may actually be the install of the film that is causing the crack. The GT3 lights are not supposed to be covered with protective film. Others have had issues as well. The manual states not to use protective film on the lights.

Not sure if you can replace just the lens, I'm guessing it requires the whole unit.

You can't replace just lens, must buy entire light assembly. Not cheap.

There is a difference between delamination and cracking. The film will not cause cracking. Post some photos

Like Jimmy-D said please post some photos. A good closeup shot would help. It is possible for a plastic lens to crack without impact. It happened to me on another manufacturer's car. They replaced it under warranty. You need to determine if the cause is impact related.

I have been told that the headlight is pretty much sealed, whole headlight has to be replaced

Similar issues with surround delamination. I did not have the lens covered with expel and the dealer has set up replacement without hassle. The covering of the lens was the first question though. Interestingly the edges of mine cracked not the surface where the xpel would cover. Sounds similar to yours

There is no serviceable part. it is replaced as a complete assembly and returned to Germany.

I shared Nick's thoughts when I read the OP's post. The manual mentions the possibility of damage from excessive heat build up if the headlight lens is covered with film which suggests the possibility of something other than delamination. The fact that the lens is cracked along the edge where the film doesn't cover it made me think there could be an issue with thermal expansion due to temperature differences on the lens surface. Just speculating.....

It would be interesting to see pictures.

Last year, a 991 Forum member had a headlight edge cracking issue. Was replaced under warranty. I'll try to find the old post when I get back on my laptop. Some thought it was from the film being trimmed (nicked).

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll post pics when I get home tonight. My issue looks pretty similar to the "Micro cracks" post that was linked above.

Default Pics of headlight crack

Here are a couple of pics. It looks a bit like an impact, but then there is a very small crack in the other headlight in the same area.
