The Certified Porsche Auto shop who painted it was used to doing things like this. It took us about 10 min. I cheated it up a little because that is what I wanted( take a closer look). They used Painter's tape and measuring tape to get it done. Just take your time and not only use the taillights as a reference point but the space between the license plate which is below

Cheated mine up a bit. Didn’t have a template. Took a photo of the emblem, printed it, cut the letters out and used the “negative” left on the paper as a template. Had to get creative. Don’t think it’s 100%, but it’s very close.

I used the rear view camera to center the emblem as it was a definite “center point”.

Your idea of making a template inspired me. I tried printing it off and cutting it out by hand, but it was a pain in the ***. So I had a shop laser cut it into some mylar. I taped that up on the car to get it just right and just stuck the letters into it like a stencil. Worked great.
