Default Motor Trend's new test of the Z06

Just an alignment and revised software to soften up the track suspension.

Pretty impressive. Beats the Nismo. And the manual is actually the quicker car. Triumph for us manual-loving guys!

It sounds like they are just covering their asses now.

Now Nissan is also going to say they had their wrong adjustments and the saga will continue

That's what they get for not setting the car up at Sebring...

Then it's good for all of us. Manufacturers keep improving their cars so we all benefit.

GM has to solve the over heating issue. Good friend who had an early GT3 order (canceled due to engine issues) has a stage 3. 4 hard laps at Road Atlanta and it complained with high oil temps. He loves the car though.

Corvettes put up some good numbers but I have never looked at them as track cars. Great street cars though but not my cup of tea

Default Corvets

I had a couple in the seventies. They were know as the "Plastic Pigs." Back then that was true. Not sure what is going on now.

I'll tell you what, if I'm Nissan I would be happy....it took GM 2 attempts for an "all new" Corvette Z06 to beat a existing GTR model that has not had much change in the past couple years (yes some changes but same basic platform)....I would say the GTR put up a dammed impressive fight.

The Z06 is great (test drove a 7MT) but I think the more apt Porsche doppelganger would be the TTS, even though it's about a 80k price difference.

+1. And what is up with their factory alignment not having the cambers aligned properly. That is just poor quality control.

Not sure what you mean. Article concluded GTR is faster on the track, faster on a straight line and was the winner by the smallest margins. And the GTR did it with less HP and less torque than the Z06. I think Chevy needs a third attempt to try to beat the GTR.

This is the most troubling part of the Z06.

As in previous tests, the Z06 got very hot during lapping and pulled power. Per Pobst: "The power starts to fall off significantly after the first lap. It was nearly pegging the oil temp gauge after a few laps. 320 degrees. I did a cool-off lap and it came right back down."

True - ran COTA in my manual transmission 2015 Z06 stage 3 and was trying to chase down a McLaren P1 - after out lap, oil temps were 257, and during the hard run, oil temps hit 280 which caused water temps to rise to over 230 - engine started powering down. All traction aids were off when running (BTW - car didn't overheat as fast when traction aids were on, even the most aggressive setting). that said, pretty unacceptable to have a pretty great track car not deliver full power after a few laps. BTW - air temperature was about 60 degrees; can't imagine how fast it would have overheated if it were 90 degrees out.

If they could figure out better cooling without detuning the engine, combined with the on-board PDR, the car would be truly fantastic. That said, very much looking forward to the 991 GT3 that arrives at the end of this month.

For your viewing enjoyment......
