There will be around 1200 in the US just like the last 2 RS, except for the limited edition GT2RS and 4.0.
I have a build sheet, but the big question is when will it be ready for pickup in Germany. I have no use for an RS built October..

The funny part is the circus that seems to be created by Porsche is mostly created by posters on the forum. Misinformation all over the place and people wanting to be first. We all know dealers have little to no info, yet people constantly take what the dealer says as truth. Dealers will say anything to sell a car and we all know that but people are blinded by desire.

Alright....I am getting my name on some "lists".....the dealers are requiring a refundable deposit.....one is $1K the other $2K.....i know the chances of getting a car are slim but at this point it's my only hope.....I'm very happy with my GT3 so if it doesn't happen I save myself $50K....are others seeing the same scenario with deposits?

Once allocations for "the rest of us" are announced, how does one verify a dealership's allocations? I'm curious if there would be a way to verify what's told and if dealers hold any back for their own purchase despite a wait list started years ago. We hear stories of dealers who markup new models for market adjustments, so please forgive me if I'm not always trusting of such a powerful industry that can make "direct consumer sales models" illegal in some states.

They get one allocation in each of the porsche models to be used in the next ten years. So, 1 911 variant, 1 Cayman variant, 1 Boxster variant, etc. Once they have used their special allocation for that particular model they don't get another. If they don't use an allocation for a model in the 10 years following their 918 delivery, it just goes away.
There is no "one of each" provision. There is also no 6 month holding rule as far as I can tell..
This program is obviously a much bigger benefit than most had realized (including myself) ... Also fyi this is officially only in the US

If you have a close relatinship, the sales advisor can show you the number of allocations for his dealership in Porsche's system. But, that is the initial batch of allocations. There will be multiple rounds of allocations, and that's why the "informed" people on this forum are telling you not to panic if you do not get an allocation from the first round.

Clarifying as one of these 918 owners as this is not right. The VIP program provides right of first refusal for any special car Porsche produces for up to 10 years only for the original owner. In addition to the limited or special (Gt4, RS) cars the VIP program allows the dealer to get an extra allocation for any other Porsche that is in production at any time.

+1 to what superquant said.
Also, the benefit goes away if you sell your 918, per a decay schedule. So if you've kept it for a certain time, the VIP benefits longer a little bit after you've sold your 918, but don't necessarily go all the way to 10 years unless you've passed a certain point.

The 6 month holding rule referred to may be that if you sell in under 6 months, you instantly lose the VIP benefit. Hold for 6 months and I think it lasts a total of 3 years from initial 918 purchase.
The "one of each" applies to non-special cars. I'll dig up and post the brochure when I'm at my laptop if I remember.
What superquant said applies to all the cars most of us care about (they don't limit you to only one 911 per year, just only one "regular" 911 per year). Granted, regular 911 allocs are easy to come by, so I don't see folks invoking the 918 VIP benefit for those (or Panamera's, etc).
