This is why I think the GT4 is going to rock and I bet it may be harder to get than the RS
And- I would certainly take it over a GTS
Now- for a GT3 Owner it may not be harder to get because they will want your business.

Although it's not something I would be interested in, it is something I hope all of those who yearn for, and can truly row gears as easily as an eagle can take flight, can experience and then comment on the differences, and perhaps even substantiate all those rumors I've been hearing about how much better the GT3 would be with a "proper manual gearbox".

Well,AP did say, during the GT4 presentation on EVO,that they are " working on a few other secret projects ". Seeing that they did listen and built the GT4,I wouldn't be surprised if they would roll out a special edition as well. Let the speculations begin!

n,
If they did build at 7MT GT3, I can only imagine the kinds of "money shifts" we'd be hearing about.
I'm rooting for one just thinking about that.

The whole Internet meme about the lack of a "proper manual gearbox" in the GT3 is a bit odd to me.
I get the whole the notion that a manual provides a more emotional, visceral driving experience. If we're talking about, say, a 991 C2 or a 997 GT3, where you can actually compare the same car with either the PDK or the 7/6 MT. So, at least in those instances, one can verifiably and perhaps even justifiably say that the PDK simply is less involving than its manual counterpart.
But in the 991 iteration of the GT3 cars, I don't get how one can come to that conclusion -- that is, the PDK-S is simply not as involving (either emotionally or physically) as a proper manual gearbox would be.
How does one know?
How is one so sure that if Porsche, or let's say RUF, did fit a 7MT into the 991 GT3 that the car would be as equally and more enjoyable to drive?
It's not even about going fast (or faster), cuz we all know and can agree that the PDK makes the GT3 faster than it would be with a proper manual gearbox.
The real question is, whether a manual gearbox would make the car more enjoyable (or fun, or involving, or whatever adjective you want to choose) to drive.
I have no idea what the answer to that question is. I just know from my own perspective, given my skill level with a manual gearbox, and trying to heel-and-toe with lobster feet, I certainly will not be able to enjoy or appreciate the GT3 more with a manual gearbox, than with a PDK. Heck, even with a PDK, I feel like I can barely squeeze out 50% of the maximum potential of this car.
I just remember when Chris Harris did one of the first video reviews of the GT3 and he, like many here, lamented (at first) the absence of a proper manual gearbox, but then he went on to comment that given the dynamic and almost frenetic character of the GT3 setup, a manual might have impeded his ability to experience the full potential of the car.

My $.02 is that if AP had felt that the PDK-S equipped GT3 and RS were truly an inferior experience compared to ones with a MT, those cars would never have been built without a manual box.

Some guy on the GT4 forum is trading his 991 GT3 for a GT4. But I don't know the exact reason.

A very thoughtful perspective, IMHO. Your point about being able to compare MT and PDK-S versions of the GT3 back to back is an excellent one. It should be pointed out that there are people who made this comparison; the GT3 development team. People can complain all they want about AP being a salesman, but I know first hand that he and his team are true car guys and enthusiasts.

When dinosaurs roamed the Earth I was getting all hyped up with comments like yours, but not anymore,I actually think you're alright Major! BTW,I've seen pictures of your car that you've posted and it's gorgeous! Enjoy it in good health! Also congrats on starting a very useful thread " Tools and Gear " for the GT3 guys!

Pressure to compete with other manufacturers or not, AP and many reviewers have suggested that being able to explore the full potential of the GT3 package required PDK-S. Just saying, that's something that needs to be considered. A MT would have had it's appeal, but I sill believe that overall PDK-S wouldn't have been offered if it truly provided an inferior driving experience.

AP goes from goofball to guru depending upon what POV he happens to support with any particular statements that either he, marketing, or accounting comes up with. Ends up cancelling out whatever says assuming you take what he says seriously.
