Default Aftermarket Wheel Options?

Hi Guys,

I have managed to get a good dealer discount on a spare set of wheels (or perhaps rims to my American friends!), but at just over £6k/$9k a set, i thought it may be worth looking at other options before biting the bullet!

I have seen the recent HRE product launches and love the look, but having done my research am not confident about their durability on a car that will be tracked heavily. So i'd be interested to know what's out there...

Cheers,
Rob

HRE makes some of the best forged wheels in the business.

I wouldnt worry about their durability.

HRE is currently building a set of newly designed wheels for track use that are lighter and stronger than previous models that were very strong. I will post pictures when they are finished.

Forgeline or O.Z have some much cheaper options that will work fine on the track. Look at the GA1R (Roughly $1200 ea) or the O.Z Ultraleggera HLT ($700-800ea). I got a set of black OZ for the track and they are nice for the money.

I've run HRE P101s on the track, have even had a few offs and the wheels are still perfect. The biggest negative on them is the build time if you bend one.

I think HREs, BBS FI-R and OZ Superforgiata are the picks for the 991 GT3. I'll probably pick up the OZs if my RS doesn't come through.

HREs are some of the very best. The Forgeline GT1s are great too and cost less.

How does oz superforgiato compare to HRE and BBS F1? Also why for all of these the center locks weigh ore over 5 lug? I thought the point of center lock was to reduce weight and time for changing wheels.

There's typically more stress involved in the center lock area, so there's an emphasis for structural reinforcements, such as a heavier back pad, which often times can increase the overall weight of the wheel, when compared to an identical design in 5-lug.
