Wheel and Tire Insurance

It was around $2k for me - given how bad the NY roads are it's worth having here. I've made a couple of claims on different cars, up to and including new wheels.
I run a higher excess on my comprehensive ($2,000), which offsets some of the cost. Also doesn't count as an insurance claim, which is helpful given the total premium I pay a year. Dealers make it pretty seamless to get everything sorted.
My dealer also transfers it or pro-rata refunds it when I get out of cars early.

Well, these plans certainly make enough money on average for the insurer and the dealer to make a decent cut.
You'd have to get all 4 tires replaced or get a wheel replaced (not repaired) just to break even with the coverage.

Both my service advisor and the finance guy who was selling it recommended against this. They measure thread wear if you have an accident and there is also a limit. I forgot how much.

I never buy these things BUT about 3 years ago got suckered into one by a hot F&I chick at the dealer.
These things are totally negotiable (she wanted $3k, I told her $1500 and she took it).
Came around to filing a claim and it was a pain (tread wear, filing paperwork, etc). For the cost, I'd just buy new tires every time.

12 bucks for 5 years was worth it for me! No deductible .....it's no different than life insurance or standard car insurance. I have used my car insurance twice in 30 years. The two times I have used it far exceeds my premium cost there yes have it.

1200.00 sorry.
Bucks is an old term before the dollar was invented. A buck (deer) was a form of monetary exchange. (:

Few yrs ago we were coming back from dinner on my TT late in the evening and all of a sudden there is this hook laying in the middle of the road. I could not avoid it and went over it. It did about $6K damage to the wheel, tire, the turbo tubes, inner fender lining, you name it. Allstate said if you run over anything on the road its considered collision. I said it was dark and argued for few days and they changed it to Collision not at fault. So, if you put in a claim through your Auto insurance you better have a good story. I am not sure how the road hazard would have handled the situation as it was more than the wheel and tire.
