California Legacy Plate Program

They mailed my legacy plates straight to my house, but they were not personalized. I don't think you have to turn anything in.

16 years ago, I went into the DMV to register my new to me 964. I was at the counter and things seemed to be moving slowly.....like me standing there for 30 minutes while the person behind the desk (after waiting my turn for 3 hours) nervously talked on the phone in whispers. She hangs up the phone and I ask her "what is taking so long?". She looks up at me and says, "you need to speak with the gentlemen behind you".
I turn around and there are 4 CHP officers, two with their hands on their holsters. One of them asks me to come with them. Next thing I know I'm in the back of a cruiser. They take me to the local station and start asking me about my stolen car.
Long story short, it was a stupid error on the Virginia DMV side. I lost nearly 5 hours of my life on that registration day, and still had to go back.
I hate the DMV!

It was truly awful! CHP did apologize though. They were only acting on the bad info from the DMV.
It didn't actually end there. 6 years later, I went to renew the registration by mail and got a notice that the car had already been registered in Virginia. I again had to straighten it out with VA DMV. Really strange. No problems over the last 10 years.
I still have the car.
