In another thread, I said I like to think of the 991 GT3 as this generation's version of the 1973 Carrera RS. I was watching this video again with Walter Rohrl and noted at 20:15 to 20:28.
What do you think?
Dan (notices that Walt thinks so)

It's the next GT3. That's all we can say at the moment.
IMO it takes a series of special circumstances or market manipulation to create a reputation like the 73RS. IMHO the 991 GT3 is a great car and only with the passage of time will we see if the 991 GT3 rises to the level of the 997 GT3RS 3.8.
Production numbers alone will keep the 991 GT3 below the 997 GT3RS 4.0 and other fabled cars like the 73RS.

If it's the last GT3, then in 41 years it could be this generations 73RS.
People will marvel at the fact that the car didn't drive itself and how mechanical and oldschool it is to have to turn the steering wheel....

The 73 RS isn't the "73 RS" so it's just as well that the 991 GT3 isn't either. Life is good but legend is awe inspired.

It will be function of demand. We already pretty much know the supply. If the Dow HITS a zillion you bet it may as we'll turn into the 73RS. Millionaires are now pretty much shut out of the Ferrari market and have been drifting to Porsche. When the time comes if P cars are still in vogue we could have a hit. We cannot discount competition within the P cars themselves. The various other GT3s, RSsand Turbos. Still overall supply although quite substantial is not IMHO overwhelming.

I have a 73RS, restored by RUF in Germany in the mid 80's. It's pretty much STILL the perfect PURE sports car. Many are saying now that the 996 GT3 was/is the next RS. I had one of those too. I don't think there will ever be another RS. It was just the perfect car at the perfect time.
That said, today I had the 991 GT3 out in the canyons in Malibu and I have to honestly say it's the BEST CAR I'VE EVER DRIVEN.
