^^So that was your car out there! Russell posted pics of customer cars out there that weekend and I didn't recognize the .1 GT3. Love the APs and car number font. Drove COTA in the dark in 2021, and it was a lot of fun. Wish I could have made this event. Was this just a one time visit or are you in town for a while? It'd be great to see other .1 owners out there. It used to be the "Miata" of COTA but most have moved on to 991.2 RS, 4RS, or 992 GT3s. The 991.1 still holds its own.

Yes that was me! Thanks for the compliments on the car! What a small world -- Russ is a friend of mine from back in the day; he did my roll bar and harness setup last year.
Unfortunately this was a one time visit and the car will be on its way back up to WA at the end of this week. It was such a fun and special event though that I'm considering doing this yearly or every other year or something like that.
I completely agree regarding the .1's performance, by the way -- I had no difficulties hanging with and passing some of the .2s out there. I think everyone likes to discredit the .1 as it is the older car and also due to the known engine issues, but in practice I've found that the practical performance differences between the .1s and .2s are perhaps about a couple percentage points; certainly the differences are in the margins when considering skill variability from driver to driver, and also when considering how much the same driver's abilities change from day to day.
Drove the Gotthard pass across the Italian Alps into the Swiss Alps. Saw a few GT3s on the way - a 996, a 992, a few McLarens and any number of Ferraris.
Unfortunately my 991 is stateside but here’s some shots of a truly epic drive:
