Default PDK Paddle Imprecise?

I had some seat time in a 991 Turbo S yesterday, and I noticed that the PDK paddle has a pretty sloppy click. Let me try and describe what I felt versus what I expected out of a $180,000 car.

Turbo S PDK Paddle (on SportDesign Steering wheel)
Good:
+ Paddle could not move in any direction other than forward or back. No slop in the rotational direction of the wheel
+ Paddle was aluminum and the finish on it was very high quality
+ Paddle felt cold to touch and was substantial in size
+ Paddle was not too large to get in the way of moving the steering wheel.

Bad:
- Paddle has a very long travel
- Low paddle force for the first 30-40% of paddle travel results in what feels like a cheap video game paddle shifter
- Click force is imprecise and muted

I hope the GT3 PDK paddle is much better, but I'm starting to guess that it's probably the same...

Don't guess. It has been well talked about, and the GT3 paddles were specifically developed for the GT3 and the PDK-S. Everyone that has driven one has been impressed. The pull is 50% shorter as reported by AP. In about 3 weeks I will check it out myself (as compared to my old paddles in a 997.2 C2S).

They look the same and the material is the same aluminium. But they feel different. Have tried. GT3 about half the throw and twice as stiff. About perfect in other words. But it's nice to use the stick too

I've done this once or twice now. Sad that a manual is currently easier for me than the PDK!

As has been said, there's a big difference. I go back and forth between my Cayenne S which has paddles identical to regular PDK, and my GT3. The PDK-S paddles are much stiffer with a much shorter throw and the Cayenne paddles do feel imprecise by comparison.

Is it only the paddles that are different or are the shifter throws shorter as well?

Love mine - no complaints. I wouldn't change a thing. I paddle it all the time.

i find the force required to pull a little stiff. much more than my m5, but when shifting at 7,8, 9000 rpm it doesnt seem to be an issue.

Question - The 991 Turbo/S does not have PDK-S?

The 991 Turbo/Turbo S does NOT have PDK-S. They have the standard PDK.

Knowing what I do now - I would not spend the money on the Turbo S w/o this technology -"night and day"

What are the actual differences between PDK and PDK-S? If it's just the more aggressive gearing, then the Turbo doesn't need it as much as the GT3, due to the turbos making more low end torque. If the PDK S actually responds to gear changes much quicker , that is a distinct advantage.

Different gear ratios (including no overdrive gear in PDK-S), faster shift speeds, different/smarter shift logic programming when driving in auto mode that is eerily optimized for track driving, and paddle neutral feature.
