How do you replace gear oil in the 991?
The usual way? Drain and fill?

Clutch hydraulic oil to be replaced every 48K miles, gearbox oil every 96K miles. No special requirements in the race circuit warranty supplement for PDK-S....

2.95 liters of Mobilube PTX Formula A (SAE 75W-90) GL4.5 are used in the transmission
for lubricating the gear wheel set. 5.2 liters of Pentosin Gear Oil FFL3 are
used as hydraulic oil.

Above is for PDK box; expect similar for PDK-S

They said the same with 997, but I've seen some insides of gear boxes that look tarred inside and it can't be good to get rid of heat.

Heat another reason to dump side mufflers and cats..

Well, maybe, on the intervals. But at least the stuff can be changed.

Does anyone know if PDK-S has a drain plug? What about a fill plug?
Does it have a filter that needs to be changed like in conventional slush-boxes?

Yes, yes, and to the best of my knowledge no.

BTW, PDK-S is neither a conventional nor unconventional slush box since that term refers specifically to transmissions equipped with a fluid drive torque converter which PDK-S doesn't have. But then, you knew that...

I was referring strictly to the transmission oil filter found in slush boxes, with no implication or suggestion the PDK-S is one...

Does anyone know what are the specific differences between a vanilla PDK vs 991 Gt3 PDK-S transmission? What specifics are different internally. Something been mentioned bout Lw internals- what exactly was changed? Mike

What is the gearing for the PDK-s. Is it similar to r/p change on the 3.8 rs or shorter? What internals in PDK-S was beefed up? I know they worked on the software mapping. Now are there trans cooler on the PDK-S? What's the weight difference between the PDK vs PDK-S vs mezger tranny? Mike

All I know is,if they used the 6 speed they would've saved weight...quite substantial weight...

So guys who have tracked the 991 gt3 in automode- has pdk gone into 6 gear? Like the prev gen gt3's never used 6th gear- kinda wished they just used 5 gears vs a 6 gear box. Mike

See below for a gearing comparison of 997.2 and 991 GT3. I don't know specifics about the internals of the PDK-S gearbox other than that the gear set is different and lighter. I believe it has 2 external oil coolers but need to confirm; for sure it has at least one. PDK-S is 4 pounds lighter than PDK and around 60 lbs heavier than the old 6 speed manual.

Gear ratios PDK-S transmission
1st gear 3.75
2nd gear 2.38
3rd gear 1.72
4th gear 1.34
5th gear 1.11
6th gear 0.96
7th gear 0.84
Reverse 3.42
Final drive ratio 3.97

Gear Ratios 2010 997.2 GT3
1st gear 3.82
2nd gear 2.26
3rd gear 1.64
4th gear 1.29
5th gear 1.06
6th gear 0.92
Reverse 2.86
Final drive ratio 3.44

Yes --- drain and fill just like PDK non-S.
Pic is PDK-S diagram.

Isn't the 997 3.8 rs final ratio 3.89? I think 3.44 is for the standard 3.8 gt3. Is the other specs 3.8 or 3.8 rs? Mike

My bad, you're right, those numbers are from a 997.2 GT3. Can't find the specs for an RS. Maybe someone can look it up in their owner's manual.
