Agree the article is a good read, but ultimately a bad comparison.
The 991 GT3 is sports car you could DD if you wanted, just like the regular 458.
AP intends the 991 RS to be a hard edged sports car, with less compromises for comfort, just like the 458 Speciale.
They should compare the GT3 to the 458 Italia and only compare the Speciale to the GT3 RS once that comes out.

Yup, concur. It's like they're doing the comparo for comparo sake. Any enthusiast would know that the Speciale like the Scud before it is as raw as the F car gets with its 2nd tier. If Porsche is in a sense following Ferrari with its extremes, then I'd expect the same level of insanity with the 991 RS. Hmm, perhaps even the same ~35 hp increase?

Ridiculous article. They comment how the Ferrari is twice the price but that it's not about the price but about the different approaches. That the GT3 is more refined and the a Ferrari goes the opposite direction. Absurd. If this were true, that price doesn't matter, compare the Ferrari to the 918. Then what? Bring in the LaFerrari because that would be a proper comparison regardless of cost? Of course cost must be considered, you can't just ignore the 800 pound gorilla in the room.
The fact that the GT3 can be genuinely compared to a car more than twice it's cost and share in common a characteristic of being in its "peak" is all that needs to be said. I said the same thing to my selling GM as I finished my build, the GT3 can be compared to Ferraris and Mclarens far more expensive. And, that is what makes the GT3 a great car.

They just want a hard-core superlative track oriented car.

"As we discovered when it was launched last year, when this engine isn't burning GT3's to the ground, it's an absolutely amazing power unit!"
That comment pretty much sums it up!
Stupid comment, stupid comparison!
Btw, he really should compare how many 458's went up in flames!

I get your point though. If I drove a 458 Speciale and 991 GT3 back to back, maybe in the moment I'd prefer the Ferrari too and maybe I'd even rather own one long term. What's impressive to me, though, is that they are even in the same conversation together despite the price delta. That and the fact that one of those two cars is actually sitting in my garage and I can drive it whenever I like!

And, "from the perspective of those buyers for whom a difference in ~100k is not a significant consideration" then, as I said, compare the 458 S to the 918.
Dude made a good point, were the cars track tested?

Actually, the difference is about 220K USD (135K PS) but who's counting.....

ah to be fair to Car (UK) ....they do bring a UK market context to the discussion....more than a few of us - on this side of the pond - in our pursuit of the best (somewhat affordable) drivers car...do cross shop the GT3 vs 650S and 458/S...it aint price that matters so much as immersion/permagrin....
all in all...it is strong testimony to the (standard) GT3 that it punches so heavily above its price point....
Worth noting that...Evo(UK) also compared the 650S /458S/GT3...and gave the nod to the 458S but not by a whole lot over the GT3....
the EVO test was inclusive track work...but to be fair to the GT3...Ferrari did provide....a team of technicians to optimise the 458 for Anglesey....whereas the GT3 used was a customer vehicle that literally drove from home to track and back.....
Autocar(UK) when comparing GT3 to 458S...also gave the nod to the Fezza....by a shade.
bring on the 991 RS ...Porsche still has a shot to be fired.

Ferrari's are like diamonds. If you artificially restrict supply you can charge a lot more. For the money the GT3 is vastly superior. If they were the same price I'd take the Ferrari.
