3.8L TT is not going to happen. It'll either be 3.8L NA (most likely) or turbo 3.0L from facelift Carrera/S (less likely). It's possible that they were testing with 3.8L TT on the Ring, simply because that's the only currently available plug-and-play motor available on the shelf.

The telling thing for me was when he was driving the GT3, you heard him say "I want this car". It's softer on the track, etc, and might even be slower on identical tires and particularly if the GTS was speced with PDK, but ask him which one he'd rather drive...

So far that's been my experience with the Cayman, close but not quite, and that's the real challenge for the GT4 I think. On paper it's the smaller platform and should have a shot at it, but we'll see if it can capture the 911 magic.

Seems like a huge leap from GTS to this fantasy turbo charged Unicorn.

Will also be interesting to see if the 991 can capture the 911 magic (I've only driven C2S and it didn't)

GT numbers go down, not up, with more power. Perhaps if I pooped on your head, you would have gotten it right?

Why detune the GT3 motor? BTW, how much do you think you'd need to pay the Porsche Exclusive guys to make that car for you, with a manual...? Do they even do that kind of thing any more? Or do you just need to be a oil sheikh with sealed lips?

I don't see the Cayman chassis ever putting 620 hp to the ground with any kind of grace. Not with struts at the rear, anyway- those engineers are good, but they are not that good...

I look at the suspension set-up, wheels/tires, brakes, and aero on that prototype, and have a hard time believing they will put an off-the-shelf engine in it. Unfortunately, a variation of the GT3 engine or a new turbo-4 (would be my bet) means PDK only, which is a deal-breaker for me. So I'm not getting my hopes up.

From latest issue of Panorama (PCA Mag):

"*PORSCHE MOTORSPORTS *in Weissach has been testing a version of the 981 Cayman referred to as the "GT4" - with, apparently, plans to homologate the car for GT racing when it goes into production in 2015. That would mark a watershed departure from Porsche's historic philosophy that its 911 is the "flagship", the "one and only" model approved for racing - a cause for heartache among racers who believe that the mid-engine Cayman would be the ideal model in which to compete.

The car is said to be powered by a 3.6-liter flat six developing 400 hp. Curb weight has been reduced to 1300 kg (2866 lbs) vs. 1345 kg (2965 lbs) of the GTS. A reworked PDK appears to be part of the plan. The car will have much in common with the 911 GT3RS, which in itself is the subject of a hot rumor in Germany."

WOW. Thanks for posting. Wonder about the engine specifics. And no mention of stick option?

That sounds.... fun

I know everything is still rumor and conjecture with the GT4 but that does sound like a very plausible outcome. If it does have a lot in common with the GT3-RS (rumored to be ~150k USD) it does make me wonder if the GT4 might start at 100k USD or higher when it finally does come to market.
