I would be interested in what other have seen. Super cars are not tracked.
I have been on track with an Aventador recently and my favorite track companion was a real Ferrari 330 P4 Le Mans racer (guy was running the snot out of it - 10/10ths)! At the Monterey Historics, I watched a dozen real Ferrari 250 GTO's running wheel to wheel (8-firgure cars, each).

Wouldn't say the Gt3 series is a supercar but it sure is one hell of a fun car on track. The carrera gt is a supercar but gotta say much love for those Porsche racecars back then including the cupcars- they are "super über cars". Rather drive those on track than a carrera gt or similar if I had to pick one side by side on track ie I take the latest cupcar or even the 6cup over the carrera gt/enzo/lambo/Bugatti veyron/pagonda but that's me. These folks tend to like private track days. The owner of the Enzo let me take it out, even on street tires it was fast. Did about 5 laps before I came to my senses and brought her in. I like driving the specialty Lambos, but not the standard gallardo or murcielagos.
Still love my "old" 996GT3.

This what I think about current cars:

Hypercars: P1, 918, LaFerrari, Huayra, Veyron
Supercars: 458/F12, Huracan/Aventador, 12C/650S, SLS AMG

I would not consider any 911 or R8 variant to be a supercar or hypercar.

I guess the 991 GT3 is not a super car:

well, i bought a 458 italia last year and thought it would cure me from the GT3 itch. well, it didn't. there is something about the GT3 that makes it special (i am saying this without ever having owned one), probably the rawness of it. my next car will be a GT3 (RS) or a speciale. i am done with compromises (came down the carrera C4S, BMW M5 F10 - way...).

i like everything about the 458, the sound, the engine response, the drama, the looks, the ferrari saga....but i am ready to go more hardcore. the 458 successor will be turbo charged, about 670HP and very fast with a lot of midrange torque. so for me it looks like GT3(RS) or speciale next. i have a deposit down for the RS with a guaranteed delivery slot (the allocation has last week reappeared on my dealer's system for january 2015, delivery march or april) but the RS might be a little bit too hardcore for me....
need to see the specs first.

Congratulations, Peter! I'm not really in the loop, but that would be very interesting news, that RS allocations are now showing up. Thanks for that tidbit!

IMHO a supercar must be outrageous.

Such a car shifts boundaries & requires four superior elements relative to other autos of its time:
- exclusivity
- performance
- design uniqueness
- compromise in usability

As phenomenal a sports car as it is, the GT3 does not check all the supercar boxes.

Interestingly this came up today amongst bored banter with some friends today. One referred to the GT3 as a supercar and I looked at him quizzically. I never did consider it one. Whatever it is I’m happy with it! Just glad we weren’t talking about value! Lol
