Typically dealers do not know anymore than we do. In many cases an internet savvy consumer knows more than their respective dealership.
With reference to 2016, history shows GT3s tend towards two year production cycles. Given the amount of talk over emissions regulations and fleet average MPG, I think an unchanged 2016 991 GT3 is unlikely. More likely IMHO is that 2016 will have no GT3 production and the next gen GT cars will emerge in 2017.

Question is what does that mean for the RS?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought there were 3 production years of the 996, 997, and 997.2 GT3? I was thinking I would put a deposit at a local dealer where I'd be 15 or so on the list. The sales rep said I'd have no problem getting a car, but it might be a 2016, which was fine with me.

But no one knows details for sure.

996 ended MY2005. No MY2006.
997.1 produced as MY2007 and MY2008. No MY2009.
.2s produced as MY2010 and MY2011. No MY2012 or MY2013; two extra years with no GT3 for the .2s.

And the RS models usually overlapped with the final year of the respective GT3 and then one additional year, correct?

There may be some one on this forum who may be willing to sell you their car. There are a few who will sell after they get compensated.
For me I think this car will be a keeper. All this fire stuff may actually add to the mystic

I'd rather have a new one, given the resale price will likely be MSRP anyway. I've got a 991S now, so I'm not in a rush. I was hoping to get an allocation for mid-late 2015. So 15th on the list is perfect, as long as there is a 2016 model. Otherwise, I'd probably be just as happy with one of the first 991.2 GT3s. Thanks for all the info guys! Hopefully this will help others in the same position as me.

sort of in regards to Porsche producing the car, however, the MYs are the same, respectively (.1s were the same MY as the GT3, .2s, etc.). I hope that makes sense, I'm on my second Martini...
