GP Automotive Renewal Service: 991 GT3 - Clear Bra, Window Tint, and Nano Coating
#46
Thanks for all the PMs fellas...never had this much response in two days
I know some of you are taking delivery in the next few weeks/months and I figured I'd answer some of your questions you've been pming me about:
1. What film did we use on the GT3 full wrap.....SUNTEK TOPCOATED
2. How much time does it take....About 5-6 days...our pre-prep of machine polishing and perfecting the paint prior to install, 1-2 days - dis-assembly and cataloging parts removed - 1 day, clear film installation - 1 day, re-assembly of parts and pre-prep for nano coating - 1 day, nano coat and final inspection - 1 day...for us to insure everything look OEM and there are no spare parts, we like to take our time as this enhancement is done once and it needs to be perfect!
3. Can I ship my GT3 direct to you....YES. We have our own transporter company we use, or you can directly send your car to use from dealer and we can arrange for delivery to your home anywhere in the world
4. Why do you apply a nano coating over the clear bra...This coating further protects the topcoat of the film and bonds with the material. The results are less dirt attraction, improved scratch resistance, and an amazing amount of gloss and depth, almost like actual paint. Coating lasts 18-36 months depending on care
5. Will my car look exactly like the GT3 writeup you did....ABSOLUTELY...we pride ourselves on an OCD level of workmanship and that means we have a "system" that I've developed and constantly perfect to assure it's a job that would be done at the Porsche factory
6. How do I send you my car....please PM me you full contact info, or just call us. Once scope of work is finalized, we take deposit, and book you on our calendar. I strongly encourage to pre-plan and give us at least 4-6 weeks notice. If you'd like something done sooner, please call direct and we can check our availability
7. What's your warranty...our workmanship comes with a LIFETIME warranty. The material, if cared for properly, 5-10 years depending on if we use XPEL Ultimate or Suntek Topcoated
8. Can you "undo" this installation down the road...YES. There may a time where you get in an accident, door ding where the film is punctured, but your paint is safe, etc. We can safely remove the film and/or install a new piece
Hope these commonly asked questions help you guys.
Almost forgot...
9. How much $$$.... Please PM. It's not cheap, but I promise the level of workmanship, the manner things are done behind the scenes, and the skill required to do this enhancement, will be worth the peace of mind and VALUE. You will only do this once in the car's lifetime. We're very well-known in the Porsche community and are specialists in Porsches for almost 20 years. The paint is frozen in time underneath the clear film. This means it will actually look "better-than-new". We remove all factory defects and apply the film over the cleanest and most pristine paint you can imagine. When it comes time for resale, our cars always bring in top $$ because of the workmanship of the installation, and the day someone removed the film, they're unveiling paint that can potentially be 5-10 years old, yet look perfect.

Moe,
Can you please comment on what you use for the windshield of a car that will be tracked and your preferred product in that situation?
Do use clearplex for windshields? If so why not?

Our work is very involved and takes quite a bit of labor.
Definitely do full front at a bare minimum....full hood, full fenders, full bumper, headlights, and mirrors. You'll thank me down the road
Between tint and clear bra, we'd most likely need your GT3 for 2-3 days.

I do not want or need more than that as I assume a repaint will be necessary 10 years down the road anyway. I also do not care about nano or German film or any restoration type work on a brand new car. Can you do that for a price better than pre-planned packages for something like that installed in one day while I wait?

Yes...currently we use clearplex and it does a good job against the chips and debris from daily use/tracking.

I gave this some thought. I just want clear bra over front and rear bumper and a tint over windows, 75%- 80% rear and 60% sides. I'll also want V1 and dash cam hard wired from rear view mirror.

We can do the full front and offer a moderate and advanced option based on your budget/need.
However, your comment about repainting in 10 years, I'm not sure that's something that's in the car's best interest. There's no need to repaint a car, unless it's been in a collision or its been neglected. A proper repaint will cost $8-12K and it will significantly devalue a car's price when it comes to resale. No matter how good the repaint, I'd personally opt for an ORIGINAL car any day. GT3 is a limited run and an amazing car...keep it as pristine as you can for your own enjoyment, and the next owner. We have the philosophy that we never truly own these vehicles...we're simply its current caretaker. These cars will live longer than us and will be passed down for years. We respect the workmanship that went into making them, and care for them with originality and preservation in mind when we perform our services. To us, they're not just metal and rubber, they have a spirit and should be respected and enjoyed to the limit.
Going the route you're going is still an excellent way to begin your GT3's journey. For most our clients, they simply perform a phase 2 renewal service, front clear bra service covering hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, and headlights, tint, and nano coating. Can't get better than that for the cost/value proposition.
Our service can be custom tailored to meet your requests. Hope this helps.

I have a few questions if you don't mind.
1) Will Suntek + Cquartz washout the metallic in Carrara White paint or will the metallic still come through?
2) I've never had a car wrapped before, but I've read that the film shows age (yellowing) on white cars, and I've seen the discoloration of factory installed pieces. Will the Suntek show aging?
3) If yes, will the Cquartz prevent the yellowing/aging?
4) If yellowing or other visible signs of age can't be avoided on a white car, what type of process would you recommend over white? Cquartz or maybe Opti-coat only? Of course some protection would be lost without the film.
Thanks

2. The factory installed pieces are extremely inferior IMHO, and don't compare to XPEL Ultimate or Suntek Topcoat. As for Suntek and aging, yes...there will be a slight off-white look that will come with time. No film on the market is clear and non-yellow when compared with white paint. The technology has gotten a lot better, but we're still not there if you're searching for a crystal clear film without any yellow hue.
3. Yes...CQuartz will prevent yellowing and aging. Some of the yellowing is just the adhesive under the film. The other yellowing factor is dirt and dinge build-up over the film. CQuartz will help on keeping the surface clean so dirt doesn't build up.
4. Yes...if having clear bra that will have an off-white hue over time bothers you, then just do a proper polishing and apply a nano coating like CQuartz Finest. I'm not a fan of opti-coat as it has a slightly dull and more sterile look than Finest.

UPDATE
Hard to believe it's been almsot 8 months since we did this project.
Client stopped by for semi-annual touch up...all this GT3 needed was a Phase 2 - Nano treatment and it looked as good as new. As you can see, this GT3 is getting plenty of track time

Nice work Moe.
My GM said he would "hook me up" regarding clear bra and hardwire V1 / Dashcam. I checked out one other place that was cheaper than your pricing but he does not remove parts for full wrap. So, it's no wonder he's cheaper. As good as he maybe, he probably spends less than half the time you do on a job. Depending upon what my dealer hook up entails will determine whether or not I make a drive down to San Diego for your service. I have a feeling most installers will not be as thorough as you are. Cheaper yes, but probably not as good.
I still want full front, rear bumper and now I'm thinking maybe the doors or nano coat whatever isn't covered including the wheels. And, I'll need window tint. So, I'll be in touch if the dealership hook up turns out to be a dud, because you've sold me on your workmanship. Thanks.
Dan (is concerned about headlight de-lamination)

The services you're wanting will be outsourced to a 3rd party detailer, window tinter, and clear bra guy. 3 areas to quality control and 3 separate installers you're hoping will have the skill and level of detail to bring 1 important job together...your New GT3.
There's no shortcut to do what we do and what you've seen on this thread...it's all time...hence why we can only do two full wraps per week.
We're in Aliso Viejo, near Laguna Beach or Newport Coast if you're familiar with area...not San Diego.
Which dealer are you getting it from?
BTW...don't worry about headlights...we've been installing film on them since 991 has been out, and haven't had any issues. As with anything, it comes down to patience, experience, and more patience

I'd be careful with dealer "hookups". We've redone several of those jobs because it simply didn't meet our clients' expectations. So, client ended up double-paying. You gotta remember...you cannot duplicate the care and results we achieve AND be doing it on a budget. If you see what you like here, it's simple...you gotta go to the source, get it done right the first time, and you're done.

So, I will need prep, clear bra front moderate, rear bumper, doors too since panels will be off for window tint for sides and rear, nano coat car including wheels and hardwire installation of V1 and a dash cam along with rear view mirror mount of the detector. Edwardo posted a link to a nice mount and I'll get the tech stuff ordered.
My car is expected to exit port of San Diego 12/19/14. But, I will have a better idea once the ship leaves Emden early November. I'd like to book about that time frame but with the holidays, perhaps first week of January 2015 will be better, whatever works for your schedule.
Thanks Moe, I'm PMing you contact information to schedule booking and deposit.

LOL...gotta keep the asylum going for you OCD clients. Just got off the phone with a Tesla client that's bringing his new Models S to us next week. He said the other shops see him as a "problem" because he's so meticulous and OCD. I told him "Welcome Home"

1. I wasn't aware of "metallic" in carrera white. If there is metallic flecks in any paint, yes...there will be a slight reduction in how the metallic will "pop" once clear bra is applied 2.
