sport seats or adaptive sports seats?

The extra adjustments for rake, thigh support, side bolsters, and lumbar make the 18 way a superior day to day seat, IMHO. I'd have given up all of that for the sport buckets, but they weren't available and my original thought to get the 4 way and buy the OEM buckets aftermarket is looking like it would have been a very expensive proposition. If I get a track seat it will be something much less expensive and I'll still have the 18 way for the rest of the time.

18 way for me. I have spine issues and the adjust-ability really helps. Due to that I can't tolerate true buckets for long.
If planning on installing sport buckets, then getting the basic seats first are a no-brainer. But if not planning on putting in sport buckets, then the 18-way make sense over the 4-way, as the 18-way seats have larger hip and shoulder bolsters that you can further enlarge for track-days

silverrules, I don't mean to be a smart-*** but why would the standard seats be perfect and the adaptive ones merely ok? The adaptive seats are the exact same design as the 4 way in the GT3, just with a lot more adjustment. Rake and extended thigh support adjustments in particular are a big deal for me and the standard seat doesn't have them.

Mike in CA: +1. I've chosen the 18-way too. Biggest advantage for me on the 18-way is the adjustable area where it hits your lats. I'm not a big guy at 5'11" / 175 lbs., but I feel the standard seat hits me an inch too night.

^^Ken, exactly. Plus by adjusting rake I can mimic the cushion angle and butt down/locked in position I had with my previous sport buckets. Not as good as the sport buckets in that respect, but better than the 4-way, for me at least.
