Default Booster seat (air bag off?)

I wanted. To make sure I can take my 5yr old to school. No back seat so as I understand CA allows him to ride shotgun. So, how does the airbag get shut off? Or is it weight triggered??
Thanks!!

The passenger airbag switch is triggered by weight in the passenger seat. For a fail safe, to be absolutely sure the airbag won't trigger due to the weight of the child and car seat (if used) in an accident, there is a dealer installed switch that allows the airbag to be manually deactivated (at least there is for the Carreras). I don't believe that add-on is available if the car has sport buckets which, at least for now, isn't an issue.

Thanks for the response. I too am thinking the same thing...my youngest will be 7y/o in Feb., so it'll be a small booster for her until she turns 8, early 2015.

The weight cut off for the sensor is about the 90 pound mark, IIRC.

Thanks! 5yr old + booster maybe 50lbs so I'm clear. It'd be a problem if I had to swap cars just to take em to school.
