Is there a reason to choose a Q1 2014 build over an OCT 2013 build?
#31
The real question is how any dealer can not have two earnest customers for the new GT3. Some dealers would have you believe the line stretches around the block.
I don't need a 2013 build car that will sit in a winter garage till January 2014, so I'm much happier with the resale value increment of the 2014 model year, and the negotiation leverage of waiting till the early hysteria abates.

So, I gave up my allocation for this run and will wait for 2015, hopefully RS... Then again, I like my current manually-operated car very much and might just keep it...

My understanding from two Bay Area dealers is that all 800 GT3's (plus some for the 918 crowd?) will be labeled "2014 MY" so a Nov 13 build is no different than a Nov 14 build. The 2014 MY goes all the way through Dec '14. (Know I guy here locally that has a Dec 2014 build -and it's a 2014 car!!!

I have never seen Porsche do that before and it raises the question, when will MY 2015 begin and end?

Doesn't sound rite to me... Traditionally, Aug or Sept sees in a new manufacturing year, no??? So Nov 14 would surely be a MY15 car....

All GT3's built starting with the Oct/November build will be 2014 cars. I have seen the documentation at my dealer. I don't know what cars next Q3 will be, but the Q4 cars this year are 2014.
After the 991 2012 debacle, with half of the model year being 2012 and the rest 2013, Porsche won't repeat that mistake. There is nothing weird about this, Caymans are now being delivered at 2014, so why not GT3.

It is correct that all the Q4 2013 builds will be 2014s, as it has always been.

And that is the question. Horstair is saying that both Q3 and Q4 of 2014 would still be MY 2014 builds. Traditionally, after the factory vacation in August, September builds would be the start of the next model year, or in this case 2015. They would not continue to be called 2014.

GT Series Porsches (GT2 & GT3) differ from other models in that they are made only during certain years and in quantities which are far lower than other 911 Models.
That is the way Porsche has done it in the past and is likely to continue that pattern in the future, ie:
996 GT3 Mk1 were made only from 1999-2001, 1,868 units
996 GT3 Mk 2 - 2003 - 2005, 2,313 units
996 GT3 RS Mk 1 2006 - 2009, 682 Units
997 GT3 Mk 1 2006 - 2009, 2,378 Units
997 GT3RS Mk 1 2006 -2009 , 1,909 Units
997 GT3 Mk 2 2006 - 2011 , 1,600 Units
997 GT3RS Mk 2 2009 - 2011 N/A
997 GT3RS 4.0 2011, 600 Units
So it is quite possible that the 991 GT3 will be made only during 2013 and 2014 and all units will be
considered 2014 Models - and also that 2015 models will include both the 991 GT3 Mk2 and the
GT3RS Mk 1 followed by improved models during 2016.

Can someone tell me if this years builds are allocated to Dealers as "4th quarter" builds or are they specifically identified as "November & "December" Thanks, Allan
#40
They are allocated as Q4 builds, and the dealer knows the build month. Mine is a November build. That is the only Q4 build they have. They don't know the build months for Q1-Q3 next year, only that they have one build per quarter.

I have patiently waited for my 2 local dealers to quit promising me that they will secure an allocation for me by leveraging Porche, or trading with another dealer. However, the silence is becoming deafening of late. So..is anyone aware of an uncommitted GT3 allocation out there? I am anxious to get going! Please PM me if you have any info. Thanks!!

"Good News!
At Goodwood FoS last week and had a chance see the GT3 and to visit with several guys from Porsche UK, and I got word from Andreas that Sports seats will be available Q1 or Q2 of 2014, and they will be a variant of the 918 seats to pass US DOT reg's, so I am delaying order as of now." If true, that would be a reason to delay!
