BMW M4
Excepts from Automobile Magazine article on upcoming M4. This is sounding pretty good.
Switching from current V8 back to straight six (a brilliant motor).
414hp bumped to 420hp
Focus on reducing weight. Goal to shed +400lbs over prior gen.
Quotes from M division executives:
"It needs to lighter; it needs to be more powerful."
"As long as there is demand for a manual then we [will do] the right thing by offering it."
20%-25% of current gen E90's were manuals.
Still trying to figure out where the 991 GT3 gained all its weight. New motor and tub gave it a 125lb savings over 997 GT3 yet somehow the final weight ended up 76lbs heavier. That's an extra 200lbs in PDK, RWS, and other..... Sound deadening? Bling interior?

Are you factoring switch from 997.2 C2 narrow body tub base for 997.2 GT3..to 991 C4 wide body tub for 991 GT3...seem to recall AP mentioning that was ~70lbs or so...but pls don't quote me on that.

The 997 to 991 weight loss in standard models is ~70lbs, wide to wide; narrow to narrow. That's what's been quoted and you can derive it by looking at old vs new specs. They've also quoted a 13% weight savings for the body in white 991 shell over the 997. But you're correct that the 997 GT3 was narrow body vs the new wide body 991, so I overlooked that part of the gain. And we probably rule out my speculation about the interior being a contributor as the standard Carrera made the same change.

They are photoshops from a couple months back, not the actual concept.

Wow, hang on here, I think it looks pretty cool!
They cost about $65-70K I think.
Manual I like, weight @ 3400lbs is so-so, but maybe they can make a stripper track version?
But it's a Turbo right?
Pretty much every 335 goes into limp mode after 2 laps...
If dependable it would be a serious alternative to the C2S manual!

I had an E36 M3 for 7 years, and was tossing up E92 M3 or Cayman last year. I just couldn't get over the fact that the E92 was 800 pounds heavier than the Cayman (and E36). I know it's a very different car, but still. If they got lighter, I'd be interested again.

1M. Or M2, when that comes. Lower polar moment makes it wieldier the an E9X M3, but also more of a handful. Much more in scale with the M3s of old.
