if they put the new engine in the cup, obviously it is unproven, but most importantly, it would cost them millions in support to existing race teams the world over to help them change their infrastructure to run the new motor. everybody has parts and experience for the mezger; that's why ap gave such a weak answer as to when the new motor will go into cup. it will be an expensive exercise for everybody concerned. maybe cup racing as a promotional tool has it's days numbered? maybe factory-backed 918 will replace it?

Don't think cost or parts is the issue. The cup car gets upgraded almost every year at a cost to teams campaigning cup cars. A very odd situation. Makes you wonder if there is another engine being developed for Motorsport.

Id say the euro 2013 Supercups will be carry-over metzgers and the 2014 Cups will be released in North America with new 991 engines like that of the street 991 GT3.

Of course they can! As the Cup-Cars for 2013 are only running in the Supercup they don't need to homologate the engine or sth. like this as everyone has the same and there's no BOP-Regulation. According to the fact that almost all Pro-Teams switch their cars after one year to the newer model the 26 Mezger-991-Cup's shouldn't be such a big deal to change out after the season.
Guess we'll see the DFI in the Cups for 2014 when they'll be available for all teams.

991 RSR is running the merger as well. ACO FIA rules may be different

But, your answer was with regard to the 991 CUP..this is a Porsche only series..they can do what the want there..even put 50HP electrical engines in there..
My question was with regard to the 991 RSR..and there BMW, Ferrari will watch very closely what Porsche is doing...brake dust gave us already an idea..but Im not so sure that the others there will just let Porsche change the engine after 1 year..with the argument "sorry guys, we have to put a new engine since we didnt do our job in time...."
We will see, otherwise the old engine will be in the 991 RSR for another 2 years then..but this wont be good news for 991 GT3 buyers..they want to see their engine in a race car..at least I would..
